LEON COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD CELEBRATES RECORD-BREAKING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND SCHOOL GRADE IMPROVEMENTS

 

Largest Cohort of Recognized Schools in District History Honored at Board Meeting Following Outstanding 2025–2026 Academic Year

 

TALLAHASSEE, FL — At its regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Leon County School Board formally recognized a historical milestone in student achievement across the district. During the school grade recognition proceedings, district leadership honored the largest cohort of school administrators, faculty, and school communities in Leon County history for achieving "A" state ratings and demonstrating significant letter grade gains during the 2025–2026 school year.

 

Superintendent Rocky Hanna commended principals, teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and cafeteria workers, emphasizing that the results represent "some of the highest grades that we've seen in our district over the last decade and a half."

 

"It takes everybody working together—whether it's the school bus driver who picks students up, the cafeteria worker serving breakfast, or the classroom teacher," said Superintendent Rocky Hanna. "Our school principals face intense pressure each and every day, and tonight is a night for our community to celebrate their leadership and accomplishments."

 

District Administrator Shane Syfrett highlighted that this ceremony marked the largest single group of schools recognized for academic letter grades in Leon County District history.

 

SCHOOLS SHOWING LETTER GRADE IMPROVEMENTS:

Eleven schools across Leon County elevated their official state letter grades:

• Sealey Elementary School (Principal Demetria Clemons) – Improved C to A (Up 2 Grades)

• Fairview Middle School (Principal Mandy Meyer) – Improved C to A (Up 2 Grades)

• Bond Elementary (Principal Delshuana Jackson) – Improved B to A (First "A" Rating in School History)

• DeSoto Trail Elementary School (Principal Michele Keltner) – Improved B to A

• Cobb Middle School (Principal Logan Crouch) – Improved B to A

• Astoria Park Elementary School (Principal Oronde McKhan) – Improved C to B

• Hartsfield Elementary School (Principal John Olson) – Improved C to B

• W.T. Moore Elementary School (Principal Billy Millard) – Improved C to B

• Lincoln High School (Principal Alan Burch) – Improved C to B

• Oak Ridge Elementary School (Principal Michael Landrum) – Improved D to C

• Griffin Middle School (Principal Kerri Anderson) – Improved D to C

 

SCHOOLS EARNING AN "A" GRADE RATING:

A total of 15 district schools earned top "A" grade ratings across elementary, middle, and high school levels:

• Elementary Schools: Buck Lake Elementary, Chiles Elementary, Gilchrist Elementary, Hawks Rise Elementary, Killearn Lakes Elementary, Roberts Elementary, Sealey Elementary, DeSoto Trail Elementary, and Bond Elementary.

• Middle Schools: Cobb Middle, Deer Lake Middle, Fairview Middle, Montford Middle, and Swift Creek Middle.

• High Schools: Chiles High School.

 

Leon County School Board Chair Dr. Marcus Nicolas and board members expressed deep gratitude to school administrators and families for their unwavering commitment to student achievement as the district carries this momentum into the 2026–2027 school year.
