Leon County Schools is committed to graduating students who are ready to compete and succeed in a global society. To support that mission, we are building and maintaining a dynamic digital learning environment that gives students, teachers, staff, and families the tools they need to learn anytime, anywhere.

Digital learning in LCS means:

Our Digital Learning Environment

Our digital learning environment combines:

• Digital Classrooms – interactive displays, wireless connectivity, and tools that support collaboration and content sharing.
• Student Mobile Devices – Wi-Fi–connected devices used for digital textbooks, online resources, and interactive assessments.
• Core Infrastructure – network, wireless, servers, storage, printing, and productivity tools that keep everything running smoothly.

We intentionally design this environment to adapt over time. The way a digital classroom looks today may not be how it looks tomorrow, and that’s by design—we want the flexibility to incorporate new technologies and practices as they emerge.

Student Mobile Learning Platform

Our goal is for each student to have a Wi-Fi–connected device that supports every part of the learning experience, from digital textbooks to submitting assignments online. This is our Student Mobile Learning Platform.

Our Path to 1:1

Leon County Schools has made significant investments in student devices to support 1:1 access in classrooms. Recent large-scale Chromebook purchases have laid the foundation for providing a device for every student.

Students typically access their digital tools through a single sign-on portal, such as ClassLink, which connects them to online textbooks, learning platforms, and assessments.

Support for Students & Families

The Student Mobile Learning Platform is supported by:

• Clear guidelines for responsible device use and care
• Student and family resources for logging in and accessing digital tools
• School and district staff to assist with device repair and troubleshooting

Digital Classrooms

A digital classroom in Leon County Schools is a learning space where technology is an integral part of day-to-day instruction. It is designed so that both teachers and students can easily access digital content and tools.

Standard Classroom Technology

Our vision for a standard digital classroom includes:

• Interactive flat panel displays for projecting digital content
• High-density wireless connectivity for teacher and student devices
• Easy access to learning platforms, online assessments, and digital resources

Each year, as funding permits, we upgrade additional classrooms to meet this digital standard. Local funding sources, such as Half Penny 2, help support these upgrades until all classrooms reach the baseline.

The digital learning experience only works if the underlying systems are reliable, secure, and scalable. Leon County Schools invests in core technologies that support every school, classroom, and department.

Network Backbone

Core switches provide wired connectivity throughout schools and connect each site to the District Data Center. This network backbone allows:

• Access to instructional systems and online testing platforms
• Reliable connectivity for thousands of student and staff devices
• Secure communication between schools and district systems

High-Density Wireless Connectivity

Our wireless infrastructure is designed to support high-density use in classrooms and administrative spaces, enabling the move to 1:1 devices across the district. Recent upgrades have expanded coverage and capacity to support modern instructional needs.

Central Data Processing & Communications

Central shared data processing and communications systems provide:

• Enterprise computing and storage
• Internet connectivity and collaboration tools
• Backup and recovery systems
• Virtualization and server management services

At each school, host servers and cloud-based services support file and print services, instructional learning systems, state-required online testing, desktop management, and the Student Information System.
