Educational Choices to Empower Your Future
Leon County Schools is wholeheartedly dedicated to offering a wide range of educational choices tailored to accommodate the unique learning needs of every student and family within our district. Our mission is to ensure that each student achieves success by providing a diverse selection of courses and elective options that not only meet but also exceed the graduation requirements for high school. By allowing students to select courses that resonate with their personal interests and academic goals, we empower them to take charge of their educational journey.
To further enhance our offerings, we provide several specialized educational options, including:
- Magnet Schools: These schools focus on specific academic themes or curricula, allowing students to engage in specialized programs that cater to their interests, such as science, technology, arts, and humanities.
- Career and Professional Academies: These academies combine rigorous academics with hands-on training in various vocational fields, preparing students for successful careers immediately after graduation or for further education in their chosen professions.
- Career Dual Enrollment Programs: We offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school, providing a head start on their post-secondary education and helping them save on tuition costs.
- Advanced Placement (AP) Programs: Our AP courses allow students to take college-level courses that challenge them academically and provide the chance to earn college credit based on their performance on AP exams.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs: The IB program offers a globally recognized curriculum that encourages critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a rigorous educational experience, preparing students for success in an increasingly interconnected world.
- Pre-Kindergarten Education Program for Children with Special Needs: Parents of 4-year-old children with special needs have the option to enroll their children in the VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) Specialized Instructional Services program. This program is specifically designed to cater to young children who require additional support due to disabilities.
- Controlled Open Enrollment: We’re excited to offer parents the chance to choose the best school for their child! This program allows students to attend public schools outside their assigned residential area, as well as in nearby counties, as long as the school has space available and meets class size guidelines. We believe every child deserves a great educational experience, and this option is all about giving families more choices! If regular transportation isn't provided, parents will need to help with getting their kids to school.
Our commitment extends beyond traditional K-12 education; we recognize the importance of lifelong learning. Therefore, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our community by offering educational choices and opportunities at every stage of life. From early learning programs for children as young as 6 months to adult education options, Leon County Schools is here to support every step of your educational journey.
