School Improvement, Accountability and Testing Overview

Welcome to School Improvement, Accountability, and Testing—a division of Academic Services within Leon County Schools.

Our purpose is to administer all district and state testing programs, analyze and share related data, and support district initiatives focused on student achievement.

Assessing students and monitoring their progress is a vital part of our work. We understand that parents, students, and the school community may have questions regarding assessments. We encourage you to visit this site regularly to stay informed and access related information.

In addition to new standards, teacher evaluations have evolved due to state legislation. We continue to apply changes as they are approved and keep our instructional staff informed of modifications.

Our goal is to provide you with the most up-to-date information on testing, program requirements, district performance data, and guidance for research requests. Announcements & Upcoming Events

The Florida Department of Education has released 2025 Test Release Support Documents. These comprehensive documents include answer keys and additional information for each released test. Versions of each released test that can be used for paper-based practice are also available.

Sample items for VPK–2, FAST Grades 3–10, B.E.S.T., Science, and Social Studies can also be viewed in the Students & Families section of the FL FAST site.

Parents of Personalized Education Program (PEP) students have the option to select from the Florida Department of Education's (FDOE) list of approved norm-referenced assessments, which are also available to other scholarship students attending participating private schools. Alternatively, Home Education, FLVS, and PEP parents or guardians for students in grades 3–10 may coordinate with their local school district to have their students take Florida's statewide assessments, administered to public school students during the third progress monitoring window (May 1–22, 2026). These assessments must be taken at a scheduled date and time at a school site designated by the district.

If you would like your student to take a statewide assessment, the following options are available (all administered in May 2026):

  • Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) for Grades 3–10 Reading and Grades 3–8 Mathematics
  • Science for Grades 5 and 8
  • End-of-Course assessments for Algebra 1, Biology 1, Civics, Geometry, and U.S. History

Please note: You must contact the district assessment office by March 6, 2026, to register for statewide testing. Do not contact your local public school or arrive for testing without prior arrangements through the district office.

The Know Your Schools Portal is a one-of-a-kind resource to provide stakeholders with the ability to map and compare Florida public schools and view the Florida Report Cards, which show how the state, district and schools are doing with regard to student achievement and success specified by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
