Keeping our students and staff safe remains a top priority at Leon County Schools
During a recent School Board agenda review meeting, Chief Jimmy Williams presented the annual Safety and Security Executive Summary, highlighting the district's continued investments in campus security, emergency preparedness, and student safety.

Here are a few highlights:
  • State Compliance: LCS met all state safety compliance requirements and reported zero non-compliance visits from the Florida Department of Education during the first quarter.
  • $193,949 in Grant Funding: Secured our eighth School Secure Facilities Grant to support additional campus safety improvements.
  • Enhanced Campus Security: Expanded security camera systems and AI firearms detection technology, with additional camera upgrades planned for Cobb Middle and Kate Sullivan Elementary.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Conducted multi-agency emergency response exercises alongside local and state law enforcement and first responders.
  • Weapons Detection: Continued random weapons screenings and school visits with Tango, our weapons detection K-9.
  • Training & Communication: Continued specialized training for school security personnel and testing of our emergency notification systems.

Thank you to our school safety officers, security monitors, law enforcement partners, and emergency responders who work every day to help keep our schools safe!
