Investing in Our Schools and Community
Building for the Future:
Millage Referendum 2026
An investment in students, schools, and our community
Our district continues to grow, and we are dedicated to providing safe, innovative, and supportive learning environments for all students. By working together, we can ensure that every student has the resources and surroundings they need to succeed.
Every school day, teachers and support staff help Leon County students learn, grow and succeed. The proposed millage referendum would provide additional funding to increase employee pay and support school safety and essential programs.
This webpage explains the proposal, how the funding would be used and what it would mean for our schools—so Leon County voters can make an informed decision.

If approved by voters, the additional 1.0 mill is projected to generate approximately $29.3 million in gross annual revenue. Approximately 90% of the revenue would support employee compensation, including salaries and benefits. Approximately 10% would support school safety and school programs.

Teachers would receive an average annual salary increase of $6,000. Support staff, including bus drivers and student nutrition workers and others, would receive an average annual increase of $3,000.
Based on the salary comparisons of other school districts, Leon County Schools ranks 47th in Florida for average teacher salary. However, twenty-nine Florida school districts’ voters have already approved additional millage to support teacher salaries. If Leon County voters approve the increase, the average annual teacher salaray is projected to move the district to approximately 17th in the State of Florida.

Millage funds are dedicated to salaries, school security, and essential school programs.
-
Yes. This millage would allocate a 1 Mill increase in local property taxes based on the property's taxable value according to the Leon County Property Appraiser's calculations.
1 Mill is calculated based on an individual taxable property value/1000 * $1.00
Ex: a property with a taxable value of $200,000 would be $200,000/1000 = 200 * $1.00 or $200/year tax increase or ~$16.67/Mo
