McCarthy Math Academy Visits Springwood Elementary

Springwood Elementary is turning math into something students can truly get excited about.
This week, students in grades 3–5 took part in a special math celebration designed to build confidence, spark curiosity, and get them energized for the upcoming PM2 assessment. With interactive activities, colorful learning stations, and a surprise visit from Sarah McCarthy of McCarthy Math Academy, the school transformed math practice into a day full of energy and enthusiasm.

Principal Sylvia Lynn says the goal is simple: build a love for math while setting high expectations and giving students the support they need to succeed.

“Math is the springboard for our students’ future success,” Lynn said. “We set high goals, but we also put the supports in place to help our students and teachers reach them.”

And the excitement was contagious.

McCarthy, whose instructional videos students already know and love, said the atmosphere at Springwood was unlike anything she had seen before.

“There’s so much life, color, and excitement,” she said. “The students are engaged in activities aligned to the standards, and it’s incredible to see.”

At Springwood, learning isn’t just about preparing for a test — it’s about building confidence, inspiring curiosity, and showing students that they can achieve big goals.
