• C.L.A.Y-SPECIAL OLYMPICS

    What does C.L.A.Y. mean:

     Community Leisure Activities for Youth (C.L.A.Y) is a part of an instructional delivery model for exceptional students who can benefit from leisure education in the community with an emphasis on lifetime fitness, recreation, and sports training and competition.  CLAY also serves as a training ground for Special Olympics and Unified Sports.   

     

    Elementary Pre-K – 5th

    Provides an opportunity for developmentally age-appropriate innovative sports play on campus during the school day

     

    Middle-High-Transitions

    Provides opportunities for community leisure recreation and development of fundamental sports skills through sports-specific training, both competitive and non-competitive (recreational)

     

    Components of C.L.A.Y.

     

    Community Leisure Activities –students acquire knowledge of responsible social skills and physical development by participating in lifetime fitness, recreational games, and health-enhancing activities.  

     

    Youth and Adaptive Sports-students acquire knowledge and skills needed to participate in community athletics, recreation, and leisure activities through Developmental Sports Programs and opportunities.

     

    Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools - UCS is an initiative program designed to change perspectives, improve attitudes, enhance relationships, and boost acceptance among students with and without disabilities through the creation of school-based projects and sports opportunities. It includes three components: unified sports, youth leadership, and whole school engagement (https://www.specialolympicsflorida.org/our-programs/unified-champion-schools)

     

    Special Olympics Unified Sports - combines equal numbers of students with (athletes) and without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition.

     

    Motor Activities Training Program – designed for students with more severe disabilities using specialized equipment and the opportunity to train and exhibit skills at school and in the community.

    School Site Coordinators serve as school site Lead Liaison and receive training and resources for CLAY and Special Olympics through collaboration with the District-Wide Coordinator and Special Olympics Florida.
