Fingerprinting for Re-certification
-
There is no cost, and we are open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
All teachers need to wait for their year of recertification. If you do not re-certify until a later year, then please wait until that particular timeframe.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office at (850) 487-7117. We are currently fingerprinting those teachers who are renewing their teaching certification for June 2028.
How long does the process take?
The turnaround time from FDLE which processes the fingerprints, is approximately 24-48 hours. However, the process at this point could take up to six weeks until approval is met for the level two background check from the FDLE required by state statute.
We do not process any re-certification paperwork here in the Office of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management. Please contact Jean Scott (850) 487-7205 or Personnel Services (850) 487-7110 with questions about re-certification.
Waiting Period, Rejections, and Appeals
-
Waiting Period
The waiting period from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is approximately 24 - 48 hours. However, at certain times of the year when our volume is extremely high, the waiting period can extend out to 5-7 days.
Fingerprinting is done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rejections
Fingerprints can be rejected. Candidates will be notified of the rejection and will be requested to come in for a second attempt. If the second attempt is not successful, a manual background check will then be performed.
Appeals
The LCSB policy states:
Applicants who have been denied because of their criminal record shall receive written notice and may request reconsideration. Their appeal must be addressed to the Superintendent and submitted in writing.
