School Administrator Pools

  • Below are the entry-level requirements for school site administrative positions. These qualifications/credentials must be complete and documented by the date the pool application closes.

    Principal Applicants:

    1. Earned Master's Degree.
    2. Valid Florida Educators Certificate, with certification in Educational Leadership, Administration or Administration/Supervision, Vocational Education Director for Principal of Vocational Technical School, or School Principal, as required by State Board rule.
    3. Five (5) complete years of instructional experience at a school site.
    4. Three (3) complete years of school-site administrative experience or a combination of school-site and equivalent District experience.
    5. Past performance as reflected in acceptable evaluations for the last three (3) years (i.e., evaluation ratings of “effective” or “highly effective” or equivalent) and a recommendation for the position from the immediate supervisor.
    6. Successful completion of the District’s Level II Principal Preparation Program
    7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

     

    Assistant Principal Applicants

    1. Earned Master's Degree.
    2. Valid Florida Educator's Certificate in Administration or Administration/Supervision, Vocational Education Director for Vice Principal of Vocational Technical School, Educational Leadership, or School Principal as required by State Board rule.
    3. Five (5) complete years of instructional experience at a school site.
    4. Past performance as reflected in acceptable evaluations for the last three (3) years (i.e., evaluation ratings of “effective” or “highly effective” or equivalent) and a recommendation for the position from the immediate supervisor.
    5. Successful completion or current enrollment in the District’s Aspiring Administrators Institute
    6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

     

     

      

    Application Process

    All interested applicants must complete an application in the district applicant tracking system including the following required documentation:

      • Official transcript reflecting required masters degree or higher and required coursework
      • Updated resume to reflect current position and experience 
      • One letter of reference from current principal or site supervisor
      • Documentation of mastery of Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS)

    A candidate interested in the Assistant Principal or Principal Pool may not apply if any of the following have occurred:

      • Formal Level Discipline within the past five years
      • A finding by the Office of Professional Practices Services (FLDOE) 

     

    Candidates who meet all entry-level requirements and provide completed application and documentation by determined deadlines may participate in a structured interview and/or FELS mastery demonstration as determined by the district. 

     

    In lieu of required assistant principal training program (Aspiring Administrator Institute), candidates may show mastery of required leadership training through the following:

    • Two or more years of successful experience as a principal or assistant principal; OR
    • Currently included on an approved candidate list in another school district (if the requirements are similar to the qualifications of persons listed on Leon County School’s approved candidate list); OR
    • Have a sufficient combination of comparable training, education, and/or work experience, as determined by the Human Resources Department.

    In lieu of required principal training program (Level II Principal Preparation Program) candidates may show mastery of required leadership training through the following:

    • Two or more years of successful experience as a principal; OR
    • Currently included on an approved candidate list in another school district (if the requirements are similar to the qualifications of persons listed on Leon County School’s approved candidate list); OR
