The St. Patricks Day Parade saw some added green from Leon County as the Lincoln Band marched in the parade.
A dream came true for 100 talented student musicians from Lincoln High School as they made history this March by performing in New York City’s iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This milestone marked a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Lincoln High School Marching Band, allowing students to showcase their talent on one of the most prestigious stages in the world.
Led by Director of Bands Hannah Haugen and a team of dedicated chaperones, the band joined thousands of performers from across the globe in celebrating Irish heritage, unity, and musical excellence. The vibrant streets of Manhattan were lined with millions of spectators, and Lincoln’s students proudly marched and performed, creating a memory that will last a lifetime.
“This trip represents the culmination of hard work and dedication by our students, and we’re thrilled they were able to experience the magic of New York City while sharing their musical talents with a global audience,” said Haugen. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will be remembered for years to come.”
Beyond the parade, the students were immersed in the culture, history, and excitement of New York City. From breathtaking views at the Statue of Liberty to a reflective visit to Ellis Island, students connected with the deep roots of American history. A Broadway performance exposed them to the city’s world-famous performing arts, while strolls through Central Park offered time to bond and relax amidst their fast-paced adventure.
Throughout the trip, students deepened friendships, created unforgettable memories, and experienced firsthand the unifying power of music. The Lincoln High School Marching Band continues to uphold a tradition of excellence, fostering not only musical talent but also leadership, teamwork, and discipline. This trip to New York City was more than a performance—it was a testament to the dedication and heart behind every rehearsal, every note, and every step.
As the students return home, they do so with broadened horizons, new memories, and an experience that will shape their lives for years to come.

“The trip to New York was the best moment of my senior year, and I am so glad that our band had the opportunity to perform in the parade. To have an opportunity like this is very rare and it shows how far our program has come.”

“One of the most memorable aspects of this trip was the time spent with my friends and chaperones. The friendships and shared experiences made the journey even more special! Beyond that, marching in the parade was an incredible experience, not just because of the performance itself, but because of the joy I saw on the faces of those around me. Witnessing the excitement and enthusiasm of the crowd reminded me of the power of music to bring people together and it’s something I will carry with me for years to come.”
— Tatum Tschetter, 11th Grade, Horn
“Marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and being a part of such a historic event was an incredible feeling that I have trouble fully describing. It was such a mix of emotions, I remember feeling a rush of adrenaline and a spike of excitement when it finally dawned on me that we were playing for real people in the heart of New York City! As we passed by the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, it almost didn’t feel real. Even now, looking back on it, I have trouble fully grasping that we did that. We performed for people native to New York and visitors from other countries—it’s so bizarre to think about! Being able to march in such a historic event was so cool and mind-blowing. I really hope other bands in our area will be able to have similar opportunities in the future!”
— Mila Roland, 9th Grade, Horn
“While it was a huge undertaking, the outcome was worth it. Band students work so hard during the marching season, and this trip was a great way to celebrate their accomplishments while showing off their talents on a huge stage. Overheard comments from the crowd included, ‘Is this really a high school band?’ and ‘This is the best band we’ve heard today!’ Ms. Haugen’s program is top notch, and the high expectations she has for her students is obvious when you see them perform.”
— Karen Burns, Booster President, Parent & Chaperone
“The most memorable time for me is watching 100 kids come together and work as one big unit. I could not have been more proud of how they worked together and got it done!”
— Sue Creech, Grandmother & Chaperone
