Ms. Jo Sigrid Fain
Ms. Fain is a 3rd generation Tallahassean born and raised right here in these beautiful redhills, pine flatwoods, hardwood swamps, and coastal estuaries. She has 2 daughters, Lila and Becca, who make a 4th generation for both Tallahassee and FSU! She's a descendant of farmers, nurserymen, seamstresses, teachers, and pharmacists, and proud to be carrying their traditions forward through her own career. Ms. Fain has been teaching for 30+ years, mostly science, but always with an emphasis on experiential, hands-on learning. She has taught adult education, high school chemistry, biology, and anatomy and physiology, middle school science and environmental studies, and elementary Science Lab. This is her 9th year teaching Agriculture at Montford and she couldn't be more delighted to be teaching the things she loves with such enthusiastic students!
Her passions include healthful eating and wellness, learning by doing, experimentation and exploration, the local food movement, and taking better care of this incredible planet and all its inhabitants. Her hobbies at home revolve around organic gardening, cooking locally grown or collected foods with family and friends, simple construction/renovation projects, chicken and turkey farming, beekeeping, kayaking and scuba diving, and exploring the wild crooks and crannies of our local ecosystems and beyond. She also likes to sit on her front porch with her dogs and cats and grandkids and just watch the river go by...
