Mr. Cottingham

The 2024-2025 school year will be my fourteenth year teaching and twelfth in the classroom. After spending two years teaching physical education at Hawks Rise, I made the jump from the P.E. fields into the classroom where I teach math and science.  As much as I enjoyed teaching P.E., I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade the classroom experience for anything.

Originally from Rochester, New York, I moved down to Florida in order to continue my education at Florida State University. It was in college that I was introduced to Hawks Rise and began working in the afterschool program.

Throughout the many roles I've had at HRES, I have truly enjoyed getting to know the students and families of Hawks Rise, as you have all become my Tallahassee family.

My own family consists of my wife Jenny, who is a school psychologist for Leon County Schools, our baby boy Kirby, and our pup Dalvin (named after Dalvin Cook). Can you tell we're big Florida State fans? Besides going to FSU sporting events, we enjoy anything that involves the great outdoors. Between camping in different places throughout the Florida panhandle, going to concerts, and taking cruises to various destinations around the world, we love it all! In my spare time, I am frequently looking for an opportunity to sneak in a round of golf with Coach Walker.

I look forward to another fun school year filled with brand-new learning experiences!
