    What is Guidance Class?

    Hello Hawks Rise Families,

Lisa German and Shawn Einarson, your Hawks Rise school counselors, would like to welcome you to another exciting school year!  We are ready to help your students soar to success at our school, and although we serve the needs of all our students and families, today we will share information about the guidance classes we teach.

If you have a first or second grader at Hawks Rise this year, your child will get to know us in guidance class, which is part of the special area rotation.  In guidance class, we focus on character education, understanding our Hawks Rise Expectations and Hawks Rise Promise, and on developing positive behaviors and habits.

Each month we focus on a different topic.  August is rules and manners month, September introduces our bullying prevention programming, and October includes discussions on responsibility and National Red Ribbon Week activities.  In November and December, we help our students learn to practice kindness, thankfulness and generosity.

Spring semester topics include citizenship, diversity, fairness, trustworthiness, appreciation, and environmental awareness.  In each class, students will be introduced to vocabulary and concepts associated with our topics, and will complete assignments or play games to extend their understanding of the lessons.

We look forward to getting to know your children both in our guidance classes and in our other roles on campus. To discuss any counseling-related concerns, please contact us at germanl@leonschools.net or einarsons@leonschools.net or by calling 487-4733.  This will be a great year for learning and growing at Hawks Rise!
