Greetings from the Art Room!! We have been very busy creating beautiful pieces of art! Here’s what we have going on this month:
In Kindergarten, we just finished learning about Piet Mondrian and his use of primary colors. Now we are excited to mix those primary colors together to make secondary colors for our flower collage. Color mixing with paint sure is fun!
Our first graders just completed a Cezanne inspired still life by mixing primary colors together, and adding our new colors to our art. Now, we are going to create contrast using warm and cool colors in our lovely fall leaf pieces. We will be using watercolor paint and tempera paint in this artwork.
In 2ndgrade we are going to work with patterns to create a rainy day artwork. Our subject will be a child holding an umbrella on a dreary, rainy day. We will be adding line, shape, and color patterns throughout our artwork using markers, crayons, and colored pencils.
Our third graders are starting a beautiful fall piece called Value in a Pumpkin Patch. We will use different colors of chalk pastels to create shadows and highlights on our pumpkins to make them look realistic. Will be finishing the project with a beautiful contrasting sky with a glowing sun or moon.
Our fourth graders are exploring the use of charcoal to create value on our Raccoon Portraits. We will use some new techniques to create light, medium, and dark values on face, mask, and fur. We will finish these up with chalk pastel backgrounds in our own choice of colors. It’s fun to work with a new medium in the art room.
Lastly, our 5thgraders are finishing up our Mandala designs. We continue to work with radial symmetry and are choosing a color scheme to finish them up. At the middle of this month, we will be starting our yearbook cover designs for our annual yearbook cover contest. We will be learning about theme, graphic design, layout, font, and images.
Have an amazing November full of family and fun!!!
