Mrs. Sonja Gitlin

Mrs. Gitlin works primarily with the 7th and 8th graders. She received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and her Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University. She later received her certification in guidance from The University of Tennessee. Mrs. Gitlin also received her National Board Certification in Guidance during her tenure with Leon County Schools. Her middle/high school background assists middle school students in their transition to high school. As the ESOL coordinator, Mrs. Gitlin works closely with students whose first language is not English. She also serves as Montford’s testing coordinator involving all school-wide assessments.

Ms. Elizabeth Hirst

Ms. Hirst works primarily with the 6th and 7th graders. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University she taught Pre-K through 5th grades in public and private schools. In addition, Ms. Hirst received National Board Certification during her tenure with Leon County Schools. She returned to Florida State University and received Master’s and Education Specialist degrees in Counseling and Human Systems in 2011. Following graduation, Ms. Hirst successfully met the professional counseling standards necessary to earn recognition as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Her 22 years of experience at the elementary level assists 6th graders in their transition to middle school. As Referral and 504 Coordinator, Ms. Hirst works closely with the ESE department. School Tour Coordinator and Rising 6th Grade Orientation Facilitator are some other roles in which she serves at Montford Middle School.
