Welcome to First Grade

  • Mrs. Schubert Welcome to First Grade! I am so excited about getting to know each one of you and working with your child this year!

First grade is a year of tremendous growth and development. This year your child will become a reader! S/he will grow in his or her writing, math, science, and social studies skills as well as develop socially. My goal is to facilitate each child's growth to his or her best ability in all of these areas. The first grade year is different from Kindergarten and requires a large commitment to both school work and homework. However, the rewards are great! Let's work together to give your child a fantastic educational experience this year!

About Me

  • I bring almost 30 years of teaching experience to the classroom, mostly in the primary grades. I know both where your child is coming from and going to academically. It is still thrilling to me to watch a child go from sounding out words to becoming a confident reader to, finally, being engrossed in books and using them to gain information and enjoyment. Watching children learn and develop confidence with peers and in all of their academics, and knowing I've been able to be a part of that, is so rewarding to me, and I love teaching now as much or more than I did when I first started!

My husband, Dennis, and I have a special place in our hearts for Hawks Rise, since all four of our children attended here. Dennis is a licensed optician at the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center. Our oldest son, Brian, enjoys traveling the country as a long-haul trucker. Marie is a speech pathologist and lives in Colorado with her husband, Chris. Our son David is the technology specialist at DeSoto Trail Elementary and contributes to special technology projects throughout the school district. Brett, our youngest son, is an Emergency Department physician, and his wife, Courtney, practices speech pathology. Our children had a wonderful start at Hawks Rise, and I'm thankful to be a part of a school that prepares students thoroughly for the future!
