Karen Kirkendoll

I am originally from the Peach state, born in Savannah, Georgia, but raised here in Tallahassee, Florida. I went back to college in Georgia at the prestigious Spelman College where I earned a B.S. in English with a minor in Education. I am Reading Endorsed and ESOL certified, and I am also working on gifted certification. I have been teaching since 1998, and most of those years have been right here at Fairview. I have taught all levels of students and probably have occupied most of the classrooms here at Fairview. I currently serve as our Language Arts department head and I enjoy sponsoring the Poetry Jam every year. Working at Fairview has been an awesome experience.

I have one son who is a graduate of Florida State University in Information Technology and he is a saxophonist. In my spare time, I love to travel, shop, and read young adult and adult fiction.

After earning a degree in Psychology at FSU I became a substitute teacher as a temporary job, but happily discovered my love for being in the classroom. I went back to my alma mater to earn a Master’s Degree in Science Education. Since graduation in 2007, I have been a science teacher at Fairview and have taught all three grade levels. I have had the pleasure of serving as the former Science Department Chair and the Science Olympiad sponsor..

I like staying involved in our local science educating community here in Tallahassee. In my spare time I enjoy being outside, traveling, and spending time with my husband and two sons.
