Welcome！Huān yíng! 欢迎！I'm very glad that you are taking my class and hope that you will enjoy or continue enjoying learning this mysteriously beautiful language called Chinese/Mandarin/Mandarin Chinese!
Things will be a little different this school year due to COVID-19. Instead of looking at it as an obstacle to education, I have been thinking of and experiencing the circumstances as a new opportunity to learn and grow as a teacher. I hope it's the same with our children and families. I hope we will all emerge out of this to be more compassinate, more creative and to be better problem solvers. After all, life is a learning process. Life goes on and life is beautiful!
I plan on conducting classes as close to what we are used to as possible. This includes live classes, activities and class discussions. As saftey and health measures, all in-person students are required to wear a mask that isn't a bandana, buff/neck gaiter, or have a valve. Masks need to cover both mouth and nose and be worn at all times in my class. More about in-person behaviors are explained in details in the course syllbus availalbe on Canvas. As for my Digital Academy students, you obviously aren't required to wear a mask, but if you plan on having your camera turned on, please dress and act just as if you were in class in-person. Also, like in-person students, you should log on to Canvas, go to your class and join at the same time as the in-person students so you can be counted for attendance. This is not once a week, but every block. Again, more to come about logistics on Monday, August 31.
