  • April 13 to April 20

This week you will begin reading the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand.

    1. Please begin by completing the vocabulary assignment, so you will understand the concepts presented in the book. When you finish the assignment and have studied the words, take the quiz.

    2. Begin reading the book. This week you will read the introduction and the foreword. The reading in this part of the book is a bit challenging, but you can do it!

    3. As you read, complete the study guide for week 1.

    4. Read the CommonLit article called Freud’s Theory of the Id, the Ego and the Superego. You can answer the questions on the answer sheet. You do not need to return the whole packet.

    5. Your work is due Monday April 20. Your teachers expect that your work will be returned on time and that you show good effort.

You can submit your work electronically by emailing it or uploading it in Focus. If you print the work and would like to turn it in on paper, you can take it to the school and leave it in the drop box at the front of the school.

  • 4/10/2020 ANNOUNCEMENT

    Exciting News! No more Packets!

Beginning Monday, April 13, we will be reading the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand.

Monday morning, I will post the link to a totally free online version of the text. If you have a paid listening or reading subscription you are likely to find the book there as well. It is extremely important, however, that you begin with the link I am providing because it contains an introduction and author’s foreword that many other versions of the book do not. After you get past that, read from any site you wish. It is not necessary for you to purchase anything!

If you do not have access to the online version of the book and the corresponding assignments, you may request Leon High School mail them to your home. On Monday, April 13, call 617-5700 to request these materials. Please understand that we have a limited number of books available. Only request one if you truly have no way to view it online.

If, like me, you like to own the books you read, it is readily available at most bookstores and on Amazon. You will still need to read the introduction and foreword from the link I will be posting. Everything else in the book should be the same.

    Stay tuned…..

    UPDATE MONDAY 3/30/2020

The packets for both week one and week two are due Monday, 4/13/2020, by 3pm

Check under IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS for the packets and Answer Sheets.

I am uploading an answer sheet document for you to use to record your answers to the packet . You can either print it out and write on it, then scan it and email that back, OR you can download the document and type directly into it and email that back as an attachment (preferred).

    Email me your work: ChapmanS@leonschools.net

*Please note: if you work entirely from the paper packet and drop off work at the school for me, there will be a slight delay in putting in your grades as I am currently under mandatory quarantine and am not able to leave my house at the moment. It will be graded, but it will not be graded quickly and your patience is appreciated.

    UPDATE 3/27/2020
    PLEASE READ

Hi, everyone! I have been missing you and I hope you are all well.
I have updated your grades for the 3rd 9 weeks and they have been posted in Focus. (You may have to change the nine weeks in the tab in the top right corner to see them, I'm not sure. Email me if you are having problems! ChapmanS@leonschools.net)

Mr. Epting has instructed us to:

    Excusing Missed Assignments

If a student has submitted the work to you for an absence and you were holding the grade until absence is excused, go ahead and award grade.

If you had scheduled with a student to complete missed work on the planning day or were going to allow students to complete missed work before grades are finalized, go ahead and exempt them from the assignment.

If a student has missing assignments and was given plenty of opportunity during the 3rd nine weeks to complete and chose not to, then you can give them the zero.

In addition to those guidelines, I have gone in an awarded everyone a bonus exit ticket and a bonus packet assignment. This has added a little extra padding to your grades. I chose to do this because I realize that some of you never got the opportunity to make up assignments with me after my maternity leave.

If you are not in my Remind group, please sign up. I have been communicating and will continue to communicate through Remind:

    REGARDING WORK STARTING NEXT WEEK:
This is the update provided by Mr. Epting regarding school work for the next few weeks. Please read carefully and email me if you have any questions! This is a very strange time for us all and I am going to work with you as we ALL figure out how to navigate this new normal! I miss every single on of you and I really can't wait to be back in a classroom with you!!!

    Dear Leon Family:

Later today, probably after 5 pm, we will post homework/assignment packets on the Leon High School website (www.leonschools.net/leon).  These are real assignments for real grades with real due dates.  The assignments are intentionally designed as review so that students can complete the majority of them without direct communication with their teachers.  Most of the assignments are separated into Week 1 (March 30 – April 3) and Week 2 (April 6 – April 10).  We strongly encourage students to access the assignments from our website and submit completed work via email.  We have a limited number of printed hard copies available for distribution and for the safety of our students, parents, and staff, we want to limit the physical contact of passing out and collecting hard copies.  Not every course and subject will have an assignment posted by this weekend; however, if the school closure extends beyond April 10th, all courses and subjects will be added.

If you have absolutely no means to access the packets from our website, we will be distributing hard copy packets at Leon High School on Monday, March 30th from 10 am to 2 pm.  It will be a car drive through process located in the main driveway in front of the school.  The packet station will be set up on the patio by the Gymnasium.  The parent/student will drive up, remain in their vehicle and the packet will be handed to them by a Leon High School employee.  The parent/student will need to know the specific courses in which they are enrolled in order to receive the correct packets.

It will be very important that each child can access their “Classlink” account either through a computer or their cell phone.  Students used “Classlink” almost every day during the school year so they should be familiar.  If for some reason they cannot log in, the district has set up a help desk at helpdesk@leonschools.net.  It will also be very important that students stay in contact with their teachers through either email, Focus, Remind or other communication devices.  Teachers will be establishing dedicated “office hours” beginning next week that will be dedicated to assisting students and answering emails.  Specific directions for uploading and emailing completed assignments will be available on Monday, March 30th.

This will be a new way of work for all of us.  I am confident with patience, compassion, and understanding we will make the best of a difficult situation.  Hopefully this is a temporary arrangement; however, we are prepared to provide a quality educational experience for every Leon High School student for as long as necessary
