    The Story Exhibit

Story of My Butterfly artwork by ESOL Students

    May 9--June 6, 2008

    Reception: Friday, May 23, 2008

    6:30--8:30 pm

Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts

Since students have been studying the butterfly life cycle this year, as part of our joint project with FSU MoFA, they combined the butterfly theme with the Story theme. Hence K-5 ESOL students created Story of My Butterfly artwork.

In addition to exhibiting their artwork at the museum, ESOL students, along with one 4th grade class, attended a field trip to the museum to view and learn about the professional artists in The Story exhibit. This exhibit was curated by Leon County public school teachers in partnership with the museum. Many thanks to ESOL parents who chaperoned: Mrs Paz, Mrs Rodriguez, Mrs Vargas, Mrs Zhu.

On May 23, 2008, one Story visiting artist, Wennie Huang, conducted a workshop with students at Pineview. They created their own sled kite using a reproduction of their family portrait. Students enjoyed this workshop immensely!

Also, on May 23, 2008, during the reception at 7pm, three ESOL 3rd graders (Cindy, Ana, Jose) performed their readers' theater play, Keep Your Cool, to an audience. Many thanks to Ms Tiffany Baylor, FSU graduate student in the College of Education, who rehearsed and rehearsed with these students to get them ready for their performance. The students did an excellent job!

Many thanks also to Ms Sarah Coakley, FSU art education student, who designed a special butterfly garden sculpture project for 4 ESOL students (Ryuto, Cindy, Ana, Jose). Their project was the center piece of the butterfly installation.
