Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Douglas Cook
Welcome to James Rickards High School website!
I would like to share with you my educational background. With 15 years in Leon County Schools as a Teacher, and 10 years as an Administrator, this background has provided me the experiences to prepare high-school students for post-secondary education or to select a career path.
After assisting Cobb Middle School with earning an “A," nine years in a row, as a Teacher, Dean and an Assistant Principal, I became Principal at William J. Montford III Middle School in 2008. During my three-year tenure at Montford Middle School, we received an “A” all three years. In 2011-12 school year, 98% of Algebra students passed the End-of-Course exam, and 100% passed the End-of-Course exam in Biology and Geometry.
In 2012, I received the appointment to become the Principal at James S. Rickards High School. Over the last three years, our graduation rate has increased 13%. The first year our graduation rate was 79%. During my second and third year, we had an overall graduation rate of 91%. In 2014-2015 school year the Washington Post ranked, James S. Rickards High school was 252nd in the nation and 47th in the State.
I believe in order for students to excel, they must have a safe and caring learning environment. Positive working relationships between students, teachers, support staff, parents, and administration are vital to the success of such an environment. Thus, I actively demonstrate my belief by working within the school and local community groups as an advocate for students. My focus is to promote the overall success and educational issues in the best interest of the students.
I hope you find our website useful and informative. Thanks for visiting and please contact us with any questions.
