Mr. Andrew Thomas

Andrew Thomas began his educational career in the Leon County School District in 2016 as a ninth-grade math teacher at James S. Rickards High School. Mr. Thomas spent five years teaching various math subjects at Rickards High School before accepting his role as Dean of Students in 2021.

Mr. Thomas’ educational philosophy is based on the ideology that student experiences in the classroom serve as a foundation of their future success. He has an uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, and a supporting community. He strongly believes that each child has a special purpose in the world. The purpose of the classroom and the role of the educator is to foster a learning environment in which students are engaged in a setting where high expectations of success are met with effective culturally relative pedagogical practices.

Ultimately, Mr. Thomas is strongly committed to achieving academic excellence by supporting the needs of both students and staff in providing curriculum, instruction, assessment needed to meet rigorous academic achievement standards.
