Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. E. Melissa Cooper

My name is E. Melissa Cooper. I began my career in education in Leon County Schools August 2000 at R. Frank Nims Middle School.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and a Master of Science Degree in Education Leadership/Administration from the Florida State University.  At Nims, I taught Computer Applications, Career Education, Intensive Reading and Intensive Math.  I have taught at James S. Rickards High School since March 2007. I have taught Digital Information Technology and Foundations of Web Design.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, I will now assume the role of Advanced Placement Coordinator and Assistant IB Dean.  I am looking forward to working with these students as they take advantage of the rigorous curriculum that will indeed prepare them for our global society.  My educational philosophy is that any student can learn!  We all learn in different ways and it is my mission to assist students in discovering their unique way of learning and develop a love and lifelong commitment to learning. I am proud of the fact that Rickards provides different pathways for students after graduation, whether they choose to attend college, seek career and technical training, or transition into their chosen career path.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, cooking, creating with my Silhouette and spending time with family and friends.
