The entire Fort Braden Community is mourning the loss of three remarkable individuals who touched so many lives and have been taken from us too soon. Jordan Byrd, Jacquelin “Jackie” Shaw and Karen Bradwell devoted over 25 years of combined service to our community and tragically lost their lives after complications due to the Covid-19 coronavirus earlier this year. More than simply employees at Fort Braden School, we remember and honor them as dear friends, confidants, mothers, son, sisters, brother, aunts, uncle, godmothers and grandmothers, as well as mentors to hundreds of students along the way.
Karen, Jackie and Jordan are forever a part of the pioneer pulse that makes our school and community home to so many. This is evident in the lives they touched, students they impacted and their contagious outlook on life. Their passing left a void in our school, community and hearts. This void is not easily filled, but is a reminder to hug more often, cherish friendship, invest in our communities and care deeply for those around us. Their love, devotion and service to Fort Braden School and the entire Fort Braden Community is an example and legacy we are committed to honoring.
In memory and honor of Karen, Jackie and Jordan’s work on this earth, the Fort Braden Community in partnership with Fort Braden School and Tallahassee Community College Foundation will continue their legacy and commitment to education and others through the Byrd, Bradwell and Shaw Families Scholarship which will assist current or incoming Tallahassee Community College students in pursuit of their Associates Degrees.
During times of grief, our community often asks: how can we help? Through the Byrd, Bradwell and Shaw Families Scholarship, we can give back and honor Jordan, Jacqueline and Karen for years to come by donating to their named scholarship through the Tallahassee Community College Foundation.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Recognizing that students will be returning to brick and mortar on November 3rd; thereby increasing the density in schools and the district-wide capacity, in this pandemic, to 55%, it is necessary to make sure that measures are in place to minimize putting others at risk. To that end, a special discipline committee was established to put a protocol in place that is supported by District Policy 5500.

NEWS FROM THE CLINIC:
Sometimes it is difficult to make the decision about whether or not your child is sick enough to stay home from school. With minor symptoms early in the morning, you cannot predict if he/she will feel better or worse during the course of the day. These guidelines can be of help when you’re trying to decide what’s best to do.
The main reason for keeping your child home are:
A child should stay home if there is:
Any of these problems may require a call to your child’s doctor. Wear A MASK, Wash Hands, and follow CDC guidelines.
IF YOU TESTED FOR COVID DO NOT RETURN TO SCHOOL UNTIL YOU HAVE RESULTS
FACTS ABOUT HEADLICE:
Leon County Schools has a no-nit policy. If your child has live lice and/nits, you will be called to pick up your child from school. Your child will be re-admitted to school when he /she, upon examination by clinic staff, is free of all lice and their eggs (nits). Please come into school with your child to be rechecked.
Nit removal is the key to successful treatment and necessary for a student to be re-admitted to school. This prevents the eggs from hatching into new lice. Lice shampoo is available at most drug stores. However, lice shampoo only kills live lice, not their eggs (nits). You can prevent your child from contracting and spreading head lice by checking your child’s head periodically for lice. Do not share hats, scarves, jackets, towels, and brush/combs.
