TONY DELMONEGO

  • Hello, and welcome to my Distance Learning Teacher Page!

We know that this is a time of immense transition for everyone, and we are doing our best to ensure that we are working with students and their families to keep things on track. The need for a sense of routine is as important as ever, and this site is designed to provide the academic routine that has been altered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This site will operate as my daily hub for all of my classes. I will do my best to update it as often as possible with any and all pertinent information. For daily updates, please click on the appropriate class:

  • Monday 4/27 Update

Posted by Anthony DelMonego on 4/27/2020

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend was enjoyable.

I think it’s safe to say that this distance learning experience has been an up and down one for all of us. Teachers and students alike have all been doing their best to stay on top of everything, but we also know that it can be difficult.

While looking through Teams and FOCUS, I have noticed a trend –fewer students are turning in work than normal. Before we get ahead of ourselves, I am by no means upset about this! I understand that our new way of work has made things like motivation and confidence hard to find. It has also increased anxiety for everyone.

I have assigned enough content for the time being to feel that I can take a step back for the next few days to allow you all space to breathe and not feel like you are overwhelmed by assignments and deadlines. So, for that reason I have chosen to extend the deadlines for ALL assignments until this Wednesday. I know that my class is not the only one that you are navigating, and I didn’t want to continue loading up the assignments while you find it tough to juggle your remaining workload.

Consider today and tomorrow make-up days. Finish what you can and do your best to turn it in to me. We will still have our Tuesday discussion group in order for me to answer questions and help with whatever I can.

  • Monday 4/20 Update

Posted by Anthony DelMonego on 4/20/2020

Hi everyone, I wanted to make a brief but very important announcement regarding direct instruction.

As you all know, my classes are typically rather lecture-heavy. I like to talk. However, that is difficult to do with our current distance-learning model, and truth be told, I miss having our classroom dynamic where people are sharing their thoughts and we are discussing ideas. I have made a Youtube channel for presentations and assignment instruction, but I know that it doesn’t do everything that I want it to do.

So, in order to bridge that gap, I will also be introducing live discussion groups on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS in order to review content, answer any pressing questions, and host a group-oriented meet-up for students to attend so we can as closely resemble our usual classroom dynamic.

These discussions will take place during my office hours, and I strongly encourage you all to check in during these discussions so we can chat and make sure we have a better understanding of course materials. The last thing we want is for you to be confused by lessons when we are not around to help.

    The schedule is as follows:

    12:00pm - 12:30pm – English 4 review

    1:00pm - 1:30pm – English 3 Honors review

I have made new Microsoft Teams groups for all of my English 3 Honors students and English 4 students so I can facilitate the discussions for all of the classes fairly easily.

  • Friday 4/17 Update

Posted by Anthony DelMonego on 4/17/2020

    Happy Friday, folks!

This week has been an interesting one as we all transitioned to the Distance Learning model for our classes. While we have all been adjusting to the new routines and expectations, I wanted to put out an update on our way-of-work.

Attendance – While we are all obviously going to be working at our own pace, it is important that we know that you are active in the class. Starting next week, I will be implementing an “Attendance” grade. What this means is that all students need to check in with me during the week so that I can make sure that you understand the content and so I can answer any questions you have. The schedule for check-ins is as follows:

    • Tuesdays: 2nd and 3rd periods
    • Wednesdays: 4th and 5th periods
    • Thursdays: 6th and 7th periods

I will send out a check-in message during those days on Remind and Teams. If all is well, simply send me a thumbs-up or some other short response. IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE, please let me know! I can only help you as much as you are willing to let me help you.

To show me that you’ve read this, reply with the name of your favorite TV show on TEAMS.

  • GENERAL UPDATES

Posted by Anthony DelMonego on 4/12/2020
    • UPDATE 1: For all English 3 and English 4 students, your distance learning packets may be submitted directly onto FOCUS. If you have completed the packets by hand, simply scan the documents (Adobe Scan is a free app that is simple to use) and upload them onto the assignment in FOCUS. You may also email them with the title "Week 1 Packet - (your name)" so that I can easily find your work. For my SAT & ACT Prep students, hang tight and we will get you back into a rhythm as soon as possible. Be prepared for plenty of Khan Academy.
    • An important note about the packets - DON'T STRESS! These packets are not designed to be grade-breaking work. Do your best in the meantime and continue to stay safe.

    • UPDATE 2: I have added an easy Contact Me assignment for all classes, with the only requirement being that you, well, contact me! I sent out a Remind update asking for students to respond so I know whether or not they are receiving Remind updates. Those of you who have responded, your grade should reflect that. If you received it and did not respond - DO IT PLEASE! If you did not receive it, respond with an email stating an email or phone number so I can reach you on Remind. It is incredibly important that I am able to reach you on a consistent basis.
    • For any parents or guardians who are interested in receiving Remind messages, please email me with either a phone number or email that works best for you.

Invictus

  • Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
