Ms. Davis
Welcome to our Guidance class.
I have been at Hartsfield Elementary for 10 years now! Some of you I have known since you were babies and your brothers and sisters were attending Hartsfield! Strange, isn't it? It has been fun watching you grow over this year and past years!
During this time of online learning, we will meet here. My computer does not have a camera. My cell phone is even older and I am unable to use the school website there. I will be able to hear each of you with no problem. I realize this is a big problem, however you have gotten this far with online learning and I know you will be able to do this also!
My office hours will be 10:00 am until 12:00 pm

This video will show you how. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVSkYKj26qg&t=285s Write your heart beat down so you will remember it. To speed up your heart rate: do 15 jumping jacks. How hard is your heart beating? Take your palse again. Is it higher than before your started? It should be! Now, do Mindful Breathing from Monday's lesson. Take your palse again. Now what is your number? Did it slow down? How can you use this when you return to school?

This week you have learned a number of ways to help you relax, concentrate, and clear your mind so you can think calmer and better. These are just a few of the 'tools' you can use at any time during the day at school, home, with friends or family!

Practice: You are home alone...what are you going to do? THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IF: someone calls you on the phone and you are home alone. They start asking personal questions: are you home alone, where is your parent, what is your address, how old are you, what school do you go to, and other questions like this. Again, remember you are alone. What are you going to tell them? What if they keep wanting to talk? What will you do? How doyou peretend someone else is home with your? Practice with your parent or guardian and again, make sure you say the right thing.
Friday - 5/22 -
K-5th -
Practice: others are being mean on the playground. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL DO IF YOU SEE SOMEONE BEING MEAN TO ANOTHER STUDENT! Who are you going to go to the get help? What are you going to say to others on the playground around you? Are you going to join in or try to stop it? Practice with your parent or guardian and again, practice and practice again to make sure you can do the right thing with the confidence of someone who is willing to help your classmates and friends.
Now, if you have gotten this far, I am really so proud of you! I wish I could hug each and every one of you today however that is not possible! You all have the potential and opportunity to be a wonderful student, friend, learner, and be whatever you want to be "when you grow up". Remember: you can be whatever you want to be if you have good character, try your hardest and put your mind to it. For those that keep putting you down, USE YOUR I MEAN BUSINESS VOICE and tell them to stop and leave you alone!! YOU stand up for yourself. YOU are your best supporter!
I will not be here next school year as I will be retiring. Depending on how things work out, I may come back some days to mentor, eat lunch, help out but we will have to see what next year brings. I know things have not always been smooth, but YOU ALL ARE AWESOME and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Keep working hard. It will pay off in the long run.
Take care of yourself: eat all your food (including vegetables), exercise (even if it's just to take a walk), get off the electronics and read, read, read - magazines, newspapers, comics, books. Just read!!!
I love and will miss you all dearly.
