Hello Parents, Teachers, Students, and Friends of Hartsfield Elementary School! It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as principal of Hartsfield Elementary and I am excited about the things we will accomplish together in this upcoming year!
So that you know a little more about me let me share my background: I was born in Chicago, IL and came to Tallahassee for college. I attended Florida A and M University and earned my bachelors and master’s degree in education and was fortunate to be hired by Senator Bill Montford into my first job teaching science at Godby High School. I married, raised a family of five girls, and Tallahassee began growing on me because of the community, culture, career, and educational opportunities that come with living in a college and government city. My path in Leon County Schools has brought me through middle school teaching at Cobb and Deerlake, working with special populations of students at The Teenage Parent Program, and through an administrative tour at Bond, Bucklake, and Jefferson Elementary in Jefferson County. I continued my education and obtained my doctorate in Educational Leadership from Florida State University and had the opportunity to teach and coordinate leadership programs at the graduate level at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, MI and at FSU.
With my years of educational experience in LCS, I view the position of principal as an opportunity to lead Hartsfield in a new direction. While the challenge for turning achievement around is great, the opportunity to step up, lead forward, and deliver is greater. Thus my personal and professional goal is to inspire greatness in each teacher to build champions of learning in the classroom one day at a time. Our students deserve a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, fun, and where educators maximize the potential of each child through their expertise, love for children, and dedication to their craft.
While the call to lead in a new direction is clear, I will only be as successful as the stakeholders, students, and community will be in working together, which means I need you; each of you, to join in changing our course and giving our students and the community in which we thrive the best educational experience possible. We are headed in a new direction, with determination that is certain and a ‘Heart’ that is strong! I welcome your effort and energy as we partner together in this upcoming year to put the Heart back in Hartsfield Elementary as we prepare our Hawks to soar in excellence!
