• Under this tab you will find most, if not all, of the procedures of the classroom. Please review them below with your student.

    Rules:

    Be Safe

    Be Respectful

    Be Ready to Learn

    Communication:

If you need to contact me, please email me at camperc@leonschools.net. Please do not message me any other way. I will not respond. I will also update here on the website under the update tab. For grades, Focus gradebook, I will input comments when needed, and I update grades weekly.

    Turning in assignments:

Each block has their own turn-in bin. Students are instructed to place their finished work in their bins for them to be checked or graded. Completed work should not be turned in anywhere else, or it will not be checked or graded. This is the students responsibly to turn in their work to the correct place.

    Taking Assignments Home:

I understand that sometimes students need extra time, and I am perfectly fine with that. However, please understand that it is the students' responsibility to turn it the following day. If students would like to take their work home, please have them check the assignment out with me at the end of class. It will have a star at the top of the assignment. If you see a star at the top of the assignment, that means the student has checked out the assignment. Please encourage them to finish it independently and turn it in as soon as possible.

    Missing work:

I cannot stress this enough, I cannot grade work that is not turned in. If your student has not turned in their work, I cannot put a grade in the gradebook until it is turned in. If they have an assignment missing, it will appear in the gradebook as a Z for missing until it is turned in. I only grade missing work once a week, so it could take up to a week to be updated. If it is an online assignment, the student does have to update me that they have completed that assignment and show it to me.

    Gradebook:

Gradebook will be found on Focus. If you do not have a parent portal log in, I highly encourage you to get one. The gradebook is broken into 4 different components. 50% for assessments, 30% classwork, 20% for quizzes, and 0% for homework (more on this below). If you see a "Z" in the gradebook that means an assignment is missing. An * means that I have excused your student from an assignment. NG means that I have not graded that assignment yet. I input grades once to twice a week. Missing work that is turned after the due date, I only grade once a week.

    Graded Work:

I send home graded work. Everything that is graded will be returned to the students to bring home. If a student is not happy with their classwork assignment grade, they may have a second chance to turn it in. Students will not have a second chance with assessments or quizzes, but they will be able to turn in their classwork assignments for a second chance.

    Homework:

This year your student will be participating in a flip classroom method. There is a tab on my website labeled "Flipped Classroom" where you can read more about the method. In this method, there is no true "homework"; however, for transition purposes, your student's homework will be videos that they will have to watch prior to classes or read articles, etc. These are done outside the classroom so that we have more time in the classroom to work, practice, deepen knowledge. This is providing students with a teacher's teaching part before they come in to class. For accountability, I will check their notebooks or tasks they were asked to complete. If they completed it at the time, meaning the due date for the video, there will be a check mark in the gradebook which will be under the homework component. This is to help with communication with students who are or are not completing their homework. Completing this "homework" will be beneficial for students to complete.

    Extra Credit:

Prior to each math and science assessment, I will send home extra credit assignment. In order for students to receive the points, they have to complete the assignment, have a parent or guardian's signature, and turn it in on the due date. Extra credit will NOT be accepted after the due date.

    Attendance & Missing Work:

Sickness, travel, and other things will happen, and your student will need to miss school. We ask that you please email cssoffice@leonschool.net, myself, and Ms. Centers (centersp@leonschools.net). This way your students are absent can be excused if they are able to be as well as we are aware of their absences. Your student is responsible for asking for their missing work. Students can also find their assignments and missing work on the website under the classwork tab. I update it weekly, as well as daily if needed.

    Cellphones:

Cellphones are to remain in student's backpack from the time they are on school's grounds until they leave. If students need to call you, they will be able to do so on the office phone. If you need to speak to your child, you should send an email or call the front office. Our classroom is a learning environment, and we try to make it as distraction-free as possible. If a student is found with a cell phone and using it, they will receive a verbal warning. If they are found with their cell phone again and using it, the cell phone will be taken to the front office with a written warning. If a student is found with a student and using it, the cell phone will be taken to the office with a referral. The same applies to smartwatches.

Our goal throughout this year is to prepare your students for middle school. I know it seems like it is still forever away; however, it is closer than any of us want to think. We are here to guide them, help them to become responsible, successful middle schoolers.
