Daily Folders

Please remember to have your child bring his/her blue folder to school every day. Please check your child’s “Daily Folder.

 Homework Folders

Every student should be reading an AR book(s) of his/her choice weekly so he/she can meet his/her goal for the second nine weeks. AR points are earned by taking tests at school on books he/she has read on his/her level or above and earning at least 80%. Students can take AR tests on books from our classroom library, school library, public library, or books from home as long as they are AR and on or above his/her reading level.

*Please remember to sign your child’s AR weekly reading log located in the back of the blue daily folder. Every Monday, his/her folder should be signed.

Your child received U3W3 reading homework yesterday. It is located in his/her pink folder. The U3W3 reading homework is due back by Wednesday, February 13th

This is optional assignment - Make a Valentine's Day Box

If your child would like to make a box to collect their cards, they may do so.

Decorate a shoe size box with your child to collect their cards.

My students have always loved creating their boxes to bring into the classroom.

I have included some ways to create the boxes.

Ways to be creative – make a house, a car, an animal, or anything you can think of that is different and fun. Please leave a good size slot for cards and treats to be deposited and removed (you may

want to make an escape hatch on the back for when we

are done!)

Peek at This Week and Next Week

Reading- We began unit 3 week 3 on Wednesday, February 6th. We will continue to focus on the ways people can help their community. We will also talk about how people solve common problems in their communities. We will complete u3w3 on Tuesday, February 12th.  The skills for u3w3 are ask and answer questions, authors purpose of the story, synonyms, and identifying past and future tense-tense verbs. U3W3 words contain the long O sound. The u3w3 comprehension, spelling, writing and vocabulary assessments are scheduled for Wednesday, February 13th.

Math- We will be taking our chapter 5  review on Monday, February, 11th. Our chapter 5 assessment will be on Tuesday, February 12thon solving  2-digit subtraction problems using different strategies.  We will begin chapter 6 on Wednesday, February 13th. We will begin learning how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers, including regrouping ones, tens, and hundreds.

Please remember quick recall of addition/subtraction facts. Recalling facts is extremely important and comes in handy for our math chapters. I would recommend spending 10 minutes each day doing math flashcards.

Science/Social Studies- Continue our Native Americans Unit.
