Friendly Reminder

You can use Classlink to log your child in to find additional resources for both math on ThinkCentral and reading on ConnectED. These are great resources to help your child better understand the concepts we cover in class, but they are completely optional to use!
Daily Folders
Please remember to have your child bring his/her blue folder to school every day.
Please check your child’s “Daily Folder”.
Please remember weekly to sign your child’s AR reading log located in the back of the blue daily folder.
Homework Folders
Over the weekend, please review spelling and vocabulary words for u2w1, have your child read an AR book of his/her choice over the weekend so he/she can take AR test and practice basic math facts.
~Every student should be reading an AR book(s) of his/her choice weekly so he/she can meet his/her goal for the second nine weeks. AR points are earned by taking tests at school on books he/she has read on his/her level or above and earning at least
80%. Students can take AR tests on books from our classroom library, school library, public library, or books from home as long as they are AR and on or above his/her reading level. Please remember to sign your child’s AR reading log located in the back of the blue daily folder.
On Wednesday, October 3rd I distributed math and u2w1 reading homework. Homework is due on Wednesday, October 10th.
A Peek at next Week
Reading-
We will complete u2w1 comprehension, spelling and vocabulary assessments on Wednesday, October 10th.On Thursday, October 11th we will complete the writing assessment. In u2w1 our class has been focusing on ways animals survive. Some animals live in hot places; others live in cold places. Wherever they live, animals need to adapt to their environment.
This will be our last reading assessment for the 1st nine weeks.
The comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling assessments are recorded in FOCUS.
Math-
We will begin chapter 3 on learning basic number facts. In this chapter, we will be using different ways to practice our basic addition and subtraction facts. Please keep practicing basic addition and subtraction facts with your child. Flash cards can be purchased at Dollar Tree.
Science/Social Studies-
Continue learning Map Skills.
Continue learning different ways animals survive.
Dates to Remember
Wednesday, October 10th- Last day to earn AR points for the 1st nine weeks.
Thursday, October 11th- End of 1st nine weeks
Thursday, October 11th - Caldecott Carnival
Friday, October 12th- No School. Teacher Planning Day
