Winter Performance
Posted by Paige (Elizabeth) Centers on 12/3/2025Dear Families! The fifth-grade team is happy to announce a music performance on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 9AM in the cafeteria at J. Michael Conley Elementary School. Participation in this concert is optional, but we have been hard at work preparing to spread our holiday cheer and we would love for your family to be a part of this fun event. If you do not want your child to participate, please email bennittb@leonschools.net so they can complete a make-up assignment for the missed grade. This is a holiday concert in the American tradition of an “ugly sweater party”. We encourage children (and families) to wear blue jeans and a seasonal sweater; the uglier, the better. If you do not have a seasonal sweater, please wear any Conley t-shirt or a top in school colors of blue or yellow. There is a practice playlist in Quaver accessible through a tile on their ClassLink account. From the student dashboard, students may select the assignments icon and then launch the Winter Concert Songs assignment. Please supervise your child’s time on the internet to ensure their safety.Thank you!Bethany BennittMusic TeacherConley Elementary School @ Southwood2400 Orange Avenue EastTallahassee, Florida 32311(850) 414-5610 Phone(850) 414-8163 Fax -

1. 4-H Speech Competition:
Students have the exciting opportunity to participate in the 4-H Speech Competition. We spent two instructional days reviewing the requirements, format, deadlines, and brainstorming possible topics. Participating students will receive extra credit in ELA. Students should be working on their speeches at home as part of their homework. Grammar videos will be completed in class until our classroom competition concludes on December 8th. We have begun our Native American Research Project. Each student has been assigned a specific Native American tribe and is required to submit research notes and citations for approval. Once notes and sources are approved, students may begin their outline and written report following the instructions provided in class. This is a project that will be completed in class--please encourage your child to stay focused and to try their best!
Written report due: December 5, 2025 (assessment grade)
Oral presentation: December 18, 2025 (quiz grade)3. Late Work on Online Platforms:
If your child submits late work online, please encourage them to let me know. I am not automatically notified when online assignments are submitted after the due date.
4. FAST Progress Monitoring 2:
The ELA test will be held on December 9th, 2025
Please reach out with any questions or concerns. I am incredibly proud of the research, writing, and presentation skills students are developing. Your support in encouraging them to stay organized is greatly appreciated. These are lifelong skills they will use in middle school and beyond.

10/6/25 Update
Posted by Paige (Elizabeth) Centers on 10/5/2025 9:00:00 AMNovel Studies
Dear Families,
We're excited to share that our 5th graders are doing book studies this year! While we already have some copies of the books, we don't yet have enough for every student to have their own.
If you're able, we would greatly appreciate your support in helping us add more books to our classroom collection. There are two ways to donate:
- Send in up to $5 with your child and we will purchase the books.
- Order directly from our Amazon Wish List: Novel Study Books
Thank you for making these book studies possible for all of our students!
All the best,
Paige Centers

10/3/25 Updates
Posted by Paige (Elizabeth) Centers on 10/3/2025 4:00:00 PMFriday, October 3rd, 2025
Good afternoon 5th grade families, and happy October! Please review the reminders below as we head into the last week of the 1st nine weeks of school.
1) Please remind students to make sure they are watching their grammar videos and completing the independent practice. If they need time to complete the videos in class, then they need to check in with Ms. Centers.
2) Any independent work that does not get completed in class should be kept in their red folder in their binder for ELA and Social Studies. Students are encouraged to complete unfinished assignments at home whenever possible. Students are provided with extended time when necessary. However, we cannot extend deadlines indefinitely.
3) A "z" in gradebook means that your child has not turned in their assignment. Students can and should check in with Ms. Centers regarding any gradebook questions.
4) We have a test coming up on our class novel "Island of the Blue Dolphins." We will be taking this test in class, it will be open book so students may use their novel to help them answer questions and it will take place on Thursday, 10/9/25.
5) Friday, 10/10/25 is the last day of quarter 1, and there is no school on Monday, 10/13 as it is a Teacher Planning Day.
6) Please encourage your child to clean out their binder regularly and make sure that they are using the appropriate composition notebooks for each designated subject area.
7) 10/26/25 Report Cards are posted to parent portal
8) 11/3-11/7- Book Fair Week!
