Special Area Online Instruction Plan

  • We are required to assign report card grades for Art, Music, and PE this nine weeks, but we’re trying to make it as easy as possible for students to earn those grades. Here is what you need to know:

    • Students will be required to complete two activities in each special area subject (Art, Music, PE)
    • Information about activities and how to submit them is posted at www.leonschools.net/DTESSpecialArea

Here are the expectations by subject area. (Click the subject area to open more detailed information.)

    • Art – complete ONE of the three options in the Color unit by May 1; complete ONE of the three options in the Drawing unit by the end of the school year.
    • Music – complete ANY TWO weekly assignments through the Quaver platform (sign in through ClassLink).
    • PE – complete ONE of the three assignments in the Workouts unit; complete ONE of the three assignments in thePedestrian/Bike Safety unit. New assignments will be posted weekly, but you only need to complete one of the three assignments in each unit.

That is a total of six assignments that students will need to complete between now and the end of the school year. There is no expectation that you’re doing special area every day. Of course, students are welcome to complete as many of the special areaactivities as they want to, but they only need to complete the above requirements to earn an A on their report card.

It will be very easy to submit activities for credit. On Quaver Music, it happens automatically when you answer the questions at the end of a digital lesson. For Art and PE, just fill out the forms on our special area website to affirm that you have completed an activity.

The special area teachers are available through Microsoft Teams to answer any questions you have during their office hours, Monday-Friday, 10am-12pm. Mrs. Gruber, our Guidance Counselor, is available for secure video counseling sessions during these hours and by appointment. We know this is a challenging time for many, so please visit the Get Support page of our Guidance website if your student is in need of this service.

We hope that this plan will make it easy for students to stay creative and active without adding unnecessary stress at home. Thank you for your support in providing our students with a well-rounded education!
