Dear DeSoto Trail Community,
All Florida schools are to reopen for the Fall per order from Governor DeSantis. If you haven't already, please join our Listserve for additional information. Be sure to follow LCS and DeSoto Trail on Facebook and Twitter for the latest information about school reopening. Our office is closed to the public, but you may still call us between the hours of 7:45am and 4:15pm, Monday-Friday. Be safe and healthy as we get through this pandemic together.
The first day of school for students for the 2020-21 school year is Monday, August 31st.
This year’s theme is Team Trailblazer. We are Trailblazers here, there, and everywhere. We are a team whether we are on campus, online, or anywhere in the world.
We are continually registering new students. Registration is now online. Please see registration procedures under the "Our School" tab on our website. You may also contact our office for more information regarding the documents needed to complete registration for students who live in our school zone or who have been approved by the School Choice office to attend DTES.
While visitors and volunteers are not allowed on campus for the first semester of the 2020-21 school year, when we do get clearance that they may return, ALL visitors must sign in through the Raptor system in our front office and get a name badge before coming onto campus. Visitors who have already had their license scanned may use the self-check-in computer kiosks in the front office. It is recommended that new parents to DTES scan their licenses before the first day of school to ensure a smooth sign-in process.
We understand that this procedure may be an inconvenience, but the safety and security of our students is always our number one priority. When we get clearance for parents to again walk their child(ren) to class, please account for the time it will take to check in through the office. Student tardies caused by check-in procedure delays will not be excused.
We are excited that DTES has a full-time School Security Monitor and a full-time Behavioral Specialist to support our school safety and mental health initiatives on campus. We welcome our community’s support and presence on campus while still ensuring the safety and security of our faculty, staff, and students.
Our regular office hours during the school year are 7:45am to 4:15pm. School starts at 8:30am and is dismissed at 2:50pm. Student supervision is from 7:45am to 3:15pm.
Should you have any questions, please contact me or our Assistant Principal, Dr. Cassandra Poole. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Pursuant to federal law, students may not be denied a public education. As such, Leon County Schools is committed to providing a world class education in a safe environment for all students--regardless of immigration status.
LCS administrators will continue to enforce Board Policy 5540 in relation to non-DCF law enforcement investigations involving students on campus. This policy requires parents’ consent in order to provide access to students unless there is a warrant or an exigent/emergency circumstance such as an investigation involving a missing child.
LCS counselors have been trained to provide support for students and families who may be impacted by changes to federal law. The safety and security of all our students will continue to be our top priority.
