Melissa Olson

  • Hello! My name is Melissa Olson, and I have the joy of teaching our K-5 Advanced Learners program, as well as serving as the 5th Grade STEAM Special Area teacher.

I’m a proud Texas native and a graduate of Texas Tech University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education. I also hold endorsements in Gifted Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages. The first ten years of my teaching career were spent in Texas. During those summers, I had the incredible opportunity to travel across Europe, Central America, and Asia. It was in Eastern Europe, particularly Hungary, Romania, and Ukraine, where I found a deep connection while working with orphaned children—an experience that continues to shape my heart and perspective today.

In my ninth year of teaching, I met my husband, Scott. We married in Fort Worth and eventually made the move to Florida, where Scott was born and raised. I first taught at Lake Trafford Elementary in Naples before our journey took us to Tallahassee, which we now call home.

Scott and I have two wonderful boys, Reese and Teagan. Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with family and friends, reading, gardening, and exploring the outdoors, whether it's a peaceful mountain retreat or a day by the beach. I never pass up the chance to travel internationally, especially when it means experiencing new cultures or returning to the places that have left a mark on my heart.

Each new school year brings its own adventure, and I’m continually inspired by my students as they explore new ideas, embrace challenges, grow in confidence, and—most importantly—have fun learning!
