Dear Deerlake families,
Warm greetings from Coach Miller and Coach Thomas! We’re excited to welcome students to the Deerlake Running Club for a fun, supportive season that builds healthy habits, confidence, and teamwork.
Objective
Help students develop lifelong fitness through running and walk-jog intervals while fostering teamwork, perseverance, and a positive growth mindset in a safe, welcoming environment.
Practice Days & Times
- Every Monday and Tuesday, 4:00–5:00 p.m.
- First practice: Monday, September 15, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 501
- We’ll run on campus and, at times, on safe routes in the surrounding neighborhood under coach supervision.
Pace & Distance
Students are encouraged to run with friends at a comfortable pace—running or walk/jog is great!
Typical distance options range from 1 mile (minimum) up to 3 miles, based on experience and comfort.Action Steps for Families
- Register on Aktivate (Required to Participate) — Priority
Go to aktivate.com and register for Deerlake Running Club. - All students must be registered on the Aktivate Portal before participating.
- Students not enrolled through Aktivate will not be permitted to participate in the club until they are officially in the system.
- Parents/guardians will E-Sign and complete the LCSB Activity Form during registration.

- Order Your DMS Running Club Shirt ($20)
We’re offering a dry-fit team shirt this year. - Cost: $20 (check or money order payable to Deerlake Middle School)

- Sizes: YL, YXL, AS, AM, AL, AXL, AXXL
- Due by: Friday, October 3, 2025

- Timely Pick-Up (Three-Strike Policy)
Parent/guardian pick-up is by 5:00 p.m. at the designated area.
We understand things happen; however, consistent late pick-ups impact staff supervision. - After three late pick-ups, participation may be reconsidered.
Club Status & Attendance Flexibility
- Running Club is a school-sponsored club, not an official sport.
- Attendance is not mandatory—students may attend one or both days per week based on availability and other commitments.
- Participation can begin after another sport’s season concludes—joining late is perfectly fine.
What to Bring
- Athletic shoes suitable for running
- Water bottle labeled with student’s name
- Weather-appropriate attire (we’ll adjust for heat/light rain as needed)
Safety & Expectations
- Students run with coach supervision and follow all safety instructions.
- Positive attitude, kindness, and respect for teammates and our campus/community are expected at all times.
