• Welcome to the Art Program!

DISTANCE  LEARNING  IN  THE  ART  PROGRAM             4/25/20

We are now in Phase 2 of Distance Learning, where students are working on assignments created by their ALL of their teachers, ELECTIVES INCLUDED!  I hope the information below answers questions about how the Art program will proceed and helps my Art classes run smoothly for the duration of our distance learning experience!

     Linda Johnson, Art Instructor       johnsonl@leonschools.net

Office Hours:     Mon, Wed, Fri = 10:00am to Noon          Tues, Thur = 1:00pm to 3:00pm

     WAY OF WORK:

    • Assignments for ALL classes will be posted electronically on Teams and the Teacher’s Website.
    • WE ARE GOING PAPERLESS - Hard copy packets will not be available unless you have made special arrangements with the teacher. Please do not request a hard copy packet unless there is no way for you to get it electronically.
    • We need all students getting their assignments AND turning in their work electronically for the duration of distance learning.

We have 4 ways of communicating with our students, but we will be using them for slightly different things:

    1. TEAMS = Assignments, project directions, worksheets, related resources. Our MAIN way of communication!!!
    2. WEBSITE-TEACHER = Assignments, project directions, worksheets, related resources. Backup for Teams.
    3. REMIND = Alerts that assignments have been posted and where to find them.
    4. EMAIL = Alerts that assignments have been posted and where to find them.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these platforms…

TEAMS:  Think of Teams as your classroom!  If you are enrolled in 6 classes, you belong to 6 Teams.  Teams is our main way of communicating with our students & posting assignments for our classes.  Open Teams using the “(Learn At Home – ) Teams” tile in ClassLink.  Once open, there will be a Teams group for each class that a student is enrolled in.  You need to have contact with EACH of your teachers in Teams.  Get in a habit of checking each Team each day to see if your teachers or classmates have posted that day.

    1. TABS: There are several tabs across the top of your class Teams page:
      1. Posts = This is where conversations that everyone can see are posted.
      2. Files = This is where important documents, letters, or other papers will be uploaded or downloaded by your teacher for you to access.
        1. There is a “Class Materials” file in Files where my letters & documents are posted.
      3. Class Notebook = Think of this as an online 3-ring binder, where you can keep your class notes, finished assignments, etc.
      4. Assignments = SUPER IMPORTANT PAGE!! This is where you will find your assignments and all the related materials (handouts, worksheets…).  You can submit your finished work in Assignments.
      5. Grades = Not sure if or how each teacher may use this.
    2. CHANNELS: I will create a Channel for each assignment that I post.  That way, all conversations, questions, and problem solving related to that one assignment are separated from all other conversations.  It would be easier for a student who is struggling with a particular assignment to find and get help from both the teacher and classmates if each assignment has its own dedicated Channel within the Art Team.
    3. LIVE LESSONS: Each subject area has an assigned time to present Live Lessons using the Meetings feature in Teams if the teacher so desires.  You will receive a meeting invite to join a Live Lesson presentation.  If I do Live Lessons, I will try to record them so students may access the lesson later.  The Live Lesson schedule on Teams:
      1. Mon & Wed morning = Social Studies
      2. Mon & Wed afternoon = ELA
      3. Tues & Thur morning = Science
      4. Tues & Thur afternoon = Math
      5. Friday = Electives = Art = 9:00 - 9:30

TEACHER’S WEBSITE:  Assignments will also be posted on the teacher’s website as a backup to Teams, in case a student has the occasional issue getting on Teams.  Access teacher websites by going to the Deerlake website, and selecting the “Teacher Websites” tab.  Remember that I am Linda Johnson, not Karin Johnson, who is Science.  My website will be updated on Monday mornings with the assignments for the week.

REMIND:  I will use Remind as a way to alert students and parents that a new assignment has been posted or that new/additional information or resources have been posted on Teams and my Website.  Each class has its own dedicated code in Remind:

REMIND CODES FOR EACH ART CLASS:

    • The Remind code for A period Art is @gg7fea8a2k
    • The Remind code for B period Art is @f8aefe8fhc
    • The Remind code for C period Art is @h3f26cah28
    • The Remind code for D period Art is @d7aba6g22g
    • The Remind code for E period Art is @ggafaa37e3
    • The Remind code for F period Art is @6dfbk9ke3d

EMAIL:  I will use Email as a way to alert students and parents that a new assignment has been posted or that new/additional information or resources have been posted on Teams and my Website.  Students and parents can email me with questions or concerns.  Email is one way to submit your work to me for grading!  You can email me by going to the “Faculty & Staff” tab on the Deerlake website.  We have two Johnsons - I am Linda Johnson.   Information for how to submit your work for each assignment will be provided with each assignment.

    TURNING IN ASSIGNMENTS:

Projects turned in for me to grade MUST have the student’s full name on the front of the work.  When submitting work as an uploaded file, name the file should be named using this format:   Student’s full name / class period / Project name

There are two main ways that a student can turn their finished work in for grading.  Submitting on Teams is preferred.

    1. TEAMS = I have researched how to “turn in” work on Teams, and as best as I can tell this is the process:
      1. Scan or take a picture of the finished work. Use natural sunlight for photos, as it renders the best image.
      2. Name the file using this format: Student’s full name / class period / Project name.
      3. Open the Assignment that you are submitting work for.
      4. Select “+ Addwork” and upload your scanned or photographed work.
      5. Click the “Turn in”
    2. EMAIL = You can scan or take a picture of your work and submit the file as an attachment in an email to me.
      1. Name the file using this format: Student’s full name / class period / Project name.

It is possible that there are other ways to get an image of your work onto Teams.  My students are way more tech savvy than me, so they may find other avenues to submit work for grading using a digital/electronic method.  Bottom line is, if you get your work to me, I will grade it!

    OFFICE HOURS:

My office hours are =   Mon, Wed, Fri = 10:00am to Noon        Tues, Thurs = 1:00pm to 3:00pm

What are “Office Hours”?  They are the times that I will be at my computer ready and waiting for my students to communicate with me, either on Teams, or email through the DMS Website.  This is the time you can ask questions or get additional guidance on your projects and lessons.

I will check Teams and Email throughout the day, so it is very likely that you and I will connect outside my office hours.

See you in cyberspace!     L. Johnson
