Theatre & Dance

  • Welcome to the wonderful world of Theatre and Dance! I am excited to be working with our STAR students this year.

As an educator, I believe that every student has the potential to achieve greatness.  The goal of this program is to help students tap into their creativity and explore different aspects of life.  Students will do this through the use of creative drama techniques.  Some of the techniques include improvisation, spatial awareness and role-playing.  Various dance techniques and dance genres will also be explored.  In order to step into someone else's shoes, one must first feel good in their own skin, so students in this program will also be involved in self-esteem and character building exercises. These will assist them in setting goals and gaining the confidence to become the best STAR they can be.

In the Spring, students will showcase their talents and skills in the Broadway Jr. Musical, Beauty and the Beast.  Previously, students in this program have performed other Disney and Broadway Jr. Musicals such as:  Seussical, Jr.The Lion KingAnniePeter Pan, and High School Musical.  I look forward to seeing you at the performance in support of our STARS and all their hard work as they shine on stage!

Spotlight

  • Students at ATMSA are provided opportunities throughout the community and beyond their time at Apalachee.  In the Spring of 2018, Two of Apalachee's Shining Stars were cast in a short film, “Flag Duty”, which follows the story of two kids from different walks of life who develop an unlikely friendship during flag duty in elementary school. It’s essentially a story of two kids from different social classes that come together for a common good. Dylan H. and Caden S. play the roles of Aaron and Corey, along with some featured extras as well from the Shinging Stars of Apalachee Tapestry. The film is written and directed by FSU film student Raymond Knudsen and produced by Stephen Musumeci.
