Transportation Information

  • Apalachee's Shining Star Students Arrive and Depart from School each day by walking, riding the bus, being dropped off / picked up by parents, and using day care van transportation.  Parents will be required to identify how students will be departing school each day during orientation.   We highly recommend that however students will be departing campus each day throughout the regular year is how they depart on the first day.   This helps students learn routine and procedures from day one and minimizes confusion throughout the year.

Transportation changes must be received in writing by 2:15 p.m.
Please email atmsa@leonschools.net and describe in detail: child's name, teacher's name, normal method of transportation, new method of transportation, and the dates effective.  Transportation changes will not be taken after 2:15 p.m.

Students being checked out of school early must be done before 2:15 p.m.  If you must check out your child(ren) before the regularly scheduled dismissal at 2:50 p.m., you will need to to arrive before 2:15 p.m.   To help ensure students' safety, we will not be able to check out students between 2:15 p.m. and dismissal at 2:50 p.m.

Student Safety is our First Priority

Please know that school parking lots are not designed to handle the number of vehicles that come to campus at the beginning and end of each school day. Your patience, understanding, and support of is appreciated. The ATMSA staff does everything they can to encourage parents to follow the parking lot rules and maximize the flow of traffic. The staff knows that your time is precious, but the safety of every student is their first priority.

Please follow the law; do not park illegally (red curbs, handicapped parking without a placard, etc).  You may be cited by the Sheriff's Department.

Student Drop Off in the Mornings:

    • Students can be dropped off beginning at 7:45 a.m. when teachers begin morning duty.
    • Parents are to enter the front parking lot by way of the access road next to ACE (Adult & Community Education)  (the bus loop entrance is for buses only).
    • Say your goodbyes before your turn to unload – this will help keep cars moving in line.
    • Please follow the directions of staff members on duty.
    • Pull as far forward along the curb as possible before stopping your vehicle.  There should be very little room between your car and the car in front of you.
    • Students are to exit their vehicle only on the passenger side and they must be able to get themselves out of the car without any help from their parent.
    • Parents are to remain inside their cars – do not leave car unattended.
    • Do not pull into staff parking spots to drop off/pick up your child. Children are not to walk across/through the staff parking lot. Children are to always walk on the sidewalks.
    • Students will proceed to the cafeteria for breakfast at 7:45 AM.  If students are not eating breakfast, they will hold in the cafeteria until 8:00 AM or when dismissed by staff.  Students must be in cafeteria by 8:20 to eat breakfast; otherwise, they will be directed to their classroom.
    • School starts at 8:30 AM.  A student will be tardy if they are not in their classroom by 8:30.

Student Pick Up in the Afternoons:

    • Have a sign on your car dashboard with the name of your child and grade level.
    • Pull as far forward along the curb as possible before stopping your vehicle.  There should be very little room between your car and the car in front of you.
    • Parents are to remain in their vehicles - do not leave vehicles unattended in the parking lot.
    • Children are not to walk across/through the staff parking lot. Children are to always walk on the sidewalks.
    • If you park in a spot and walk onto campus, please wait for your child in the front of the school.
    • If you arrive before 2:50, please do not go directly to any of the classrooms, nor the playground area - the campus is closed until 2:50  p.m.
    • Please follow the directions of staff members on duty.
