  • Principal’s Message

    August 2017

    Dear Wonderful Woodville School Community,

I am so excited to see our new and returning Mustangs on campus this year! This year’s theme is “Education is a Game Changer” and you will notice many baseball motifs and references. We are proud of the accomplishments our school has made over the last school year:

    • In our first year as a full K-8, non-charter school Woodville ‘s enrollment increased from an anticipated 529 students to over 608! Woodville received a school grade of ’C’ – just four points shy of a B letter grade! Previously Woodville Elementary received an ‘A’ grade and Woodville Charter Middle School received a ‘D’ grade. We are proud of the progress our students made and look forward to raising the bar in 2017-2018.
    • Increased instructional staff by adding additional ESE teachers and paraprofessionals .Expanded after school tutoring for 3rd-8th grade. Introduced new instructional materials for elementary Reading, Math, and Social Studies. Increased middle school electives to include Technology and high school credit courses including Algebra I, Geometry, and Earth Space Science.
    • Expanded middle school activities to include Girls Soccer (District Runner Ups) and Boys Soccer. Partnered with Nims Middle School to offer Tackle Football (District Champions), Girls Volleyball, and Boys Basketball (District Runner Ups). Chartered Woodville’s first Junior Beta Honors Society.
    • Expanded the “M.Y. T.I.M.E.” Academy which provided free summer enrichment for rising 2nd –8th graders during the month of June. Launched the “Meet Me in the Middle” Camp to familiarize 6th grade students to middle school.

We will continue to advance our educational programs and expansion of staff in 2017-2018 by:

    • Piloting the iReady program which offers individualized computerized instruction which provides individualized instruction to remediate and advance mastery of grade level standards.
    • Introduce Lexia Learning to build phonics and phonemic awareness for K-2
    • Offer a “Back to Basics” approach to classical education to increase emphasis on phonics, writing, basic math facts, spelling and cursive writing in the elementary grades.
    • Added 2 Deans of Students to assist administration in guiding and monitoring student behavior
    • Added 2 Guidance Counselors to assist students and families in promoting positive social/emotional wellness, coordinate services with outside agencies, and monitor attendance and student achievement.
    • Adding additional full time ESE staff to support learning.
    • Increasing our base of Mentors with our 100 Mustang Mentors Initiative launching September 2017.

I am incredibly blessed to enter my 7th year serving the Woodville community and look forward to an awesome school year! Please do not hesitate to contact me to share your thoughts, time, and talents as we serve our students.

For the advancement of our children,

    Taita Scott

The Fairview Jazz Band, along with the RHS Jazz band, Leon Jazz Band, The Good Little Chickens & more, will perform in the courtyard from 6-8pm. Fans should bring lawn chairs, a picnic dinner & enjoy the music under the open sky.

  • Leon High Journalism Class and Humans Of New York

Leon High School Journalism/English teacher Phillip Wenturine introduced the Humans of New York concept to his class. It has been a great tool to encourage diversity while breaking down cultural stereotypes. Once a month, students read stories, conduct interviews, and create content for their Instagram page.
