Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Raa Middle School!
My name is Ms. Daphne Hill, your child's Biology I Honors/Comprehensive Science III teacher. I am delighted to have your child in my class this year and look forward to sharing the school year of learning with him/her! I am ecstatic and diligent about the opportunity to get your child "Hooked on Science"!!!!
I have been a secondary science teacher for numerous years. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters of Education with a concentration in Biology from Alcorn State University, located in the great state of Mississippi! As your child's science teacher, I will endeavor to create an educational partnership with you and your child that will foster courage, determination , and passion for knowledge. I am committed to provide a nurturing and challenging educational environment that will ensure academic succes.
Since the curriculum in both Biology and Comprehensive Science is very diverse, homework will be an important reinforcement tool to assist your child achieve mastery with the science standards. The purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts discussed in class and serve as an extension to the coursework. Homework assignments will require your child to study at home in a quiet, distraction-free environment. Throughout the school year, your child will also be responsible for various assignments that may require the use of the internet. Please assist making it available.
Attendance and behavior in school are crucial to the learning process. It is imperative that your child attends school each day as a mature and responsible student. During the first week of school, I will work with students to develop classroom rules/routine, rewards and consequences. Please encourage your child to be prompt and prepared for class each day for instruction and class activities.
As an eighth grade student, either enrolled in the Comprehensive Science 3 or Biology I Honors, students will be assessed required by the Florida Department of Education. Students enrolled in Comprehensive Science III assessment will include content components from sixth and seventh grade Science as well as the content covered in the eighth grade. Biology I Honors students take the Biology EOC. Please be informed of this added assessment for students in grade 8.
