About AP Government

  • A ½ credit in American Government is required to graduate from any high school in the State of Florida. AP Government and Politics fulfills that requirement while also giving the student an opportunity to earn college credit by scoring well on the AP exam.
The AP exam score has no bearing on the grade for this class.
Students will be taught the basic foundation for the American system of government, the structure and role of the federal government, and how the political process works.
Each student is assigned a textbook in order to assist in “getting through” the large amount of material in 75 days. The course is broken into 6 core units (as determined by the AP exam) with a multiple choice test after each one. Students will prepare for the free-response questions on the AP exam by having weekly practice questions.
