  • 2019-2020 BEST & BRIGHTEST AWARDS

High School Seniors - wouldn't you love a scholarship that recognizes your dedication to education and the community? The Best & Brightest Awards are searching for the best of the best among Leon County seniors, to reward them for their commitment to excellence.

Best & Brightest awards are given in 15 different categories, ranging from business and science ... to art, foreign language and public speaking. Winners in each category will be recognized as being the elite at their school in their category - and that's some pretty impressive bragging rights!

Even better is the fact that each winner will also receive a cash prize. The first-place winner in each category will receive $1,500. Runners-up will receive $750, while honorable mention recipients will each get $500. All other school-based winners will receive at least a $100 cash scholarship.

And the top Best & Brightest finalists can qualify for even more scholarship packages available with Tallahassee Community College and the Southern Scholarship Foundation.

Students who have stood out in community service and academic achievements, and who possess exceptional leadership skills, are encouraged to apply. Each school's finalist will be interviewed and evaluated on his or her written application, and to assess the student's leadership abilities and confidence.

Maybe YOU will be next. If you are interested in participating this year, contact Mrs. Garner in guidance for more information.  garnern@leonschools.net

  • 2020 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - SEMIFINALISTS

We are pleased to announce the following students have been named Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program

    • Lyric Bearss
    • Julia Hernandez
    • Katherine Kirchhoff
    • Ludong Li
    • Andrew Shen
    • Parul Singh
    • Olusegun Sobanjo
    • Jason Zhang

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7, 600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.  Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.  The Nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of US high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.  The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of national total graduating seniors.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THESE STUDENTS!
