Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

  • SEALEY PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Welcome to the new school year! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. Did you know that by gaining early success in basic physical skills and concepts, your child will find it easier to accept him/herself as they move through the school years? In addition, learning basic movement skills and knowledge in physical education helps your child feel good about moving, this in turn encourages them to be active and healthy.  According to the Surgeon General, childhood obesity is a major problem in this country. This coupled with physical inactivity is one of the leading causes of heart disease and mortality in our country. This is why we want our students to learn about health and fitness along with basic movement concepts. To help them benefit from Physical Education, it is important that they are prepared for participation when they come to class. This means that they are wearing appropriate shoes (closed toe, rubber soles with no heels) and clothes that allow for a full range of motion. They have Physical Education two days a week and some weeks they will have a third day on Fridays but also have developmental play every day. Please make sure that your child does not miss out on the opportunity to participate in Physical Education class because they are not properly dressed or do not have appropriate shoes. Not having closed toe, rubber soled shoes is truly a safety factor as flip flops break and sticks and stones can poke through sandals and Crocs.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
