About the EOC
-
End-of-Course (EOC) assessments are computer-based exams administered in May of each school year. Students who need to retake an EOC will have additional opportunities in the fall, winter, and early spring.
Any student enrolled in a course that requires an EOC must take the corresponding assessment. EOC subjects are Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, and U.S. History. EOCs account for 30 percent of the student’s final grade in the class.
EOCs are required for any student that is enrolled in the class.
These assessments are designed to measure student achievement based on the Florida Standards for each subject. Students enrolled in the following courses will take the corresponding EOC:
- Algebra 1 EOC: Algebra 1, Algebra 1 Honors, or Algebra 1-B
- Geometry EOC: Geometry or Geometry Honors
- Biology EOC: Biology or Biology Honors
- U.S. History EOC: U.S. History or U.S. History Honors
Graduation Requirements
Students who entered grade 9 in the 2014–2015 school year or later must earn a Level 3 (Proficient) score on the Algebra 1 EOC and the Grade 10 FAST ELA assessment to qualify for a standard high school diploma. Students may also meet graduation requirements by earning concordant scores on approved alternative assessments. More information can be found under the Florida Statewide Assessments tab about concordant scores.
EOC scores can be accessed in your FOCUS.
Scholarship Designation Requirement (FS 1003.2385)
Students who meet the nine requirements may receive a Scholarship Designation Seal on their diploma. You can find these requirements in your FOCUS. The requirements include passing the 4 EOC courses above.
Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE)
The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is a computer-based assessment designed to measure students' understanding of civic literacy. It was mandated by legislation in 2021, requiring all students enrolled in a U.S. Government course in high school to take the exam. The FCLE assesses four key competencies related to civic knowledge, including: Understanding of American Democracy Knowledge of the U.S. Constitution Founding Documents and Landmark Supreme Court Cases.
The test is 80 questions multiple choice questions and is given at the end of each semester. Students that pass (answer 60% correct) the civic literacy assessment will be exempt from the civic literacy competency assessment requirement upon matriculating to postsecondary.
