Details & Duties of Student Council Officers
Student Council offers 3rd, 4th and 5th grade grizzlies the opportunity to actively participate in school wide initiatives, lend their hands to community causes, and see democracy in action. While representing Gilchrist, these student leaders will gain responsibility, increased pride in their school, and an overall awareness of events at a local and/or global level. Class representatives along with school officers will be held to high academic and citizenship levels. Elections for student council will be in September. More information will be sent home through classroom teachers. Below are a list of the school officers and responsibilities:
President
- Runs the Student Council meetings
- Represents the council at various functions
- Knows the basic rules for running a meeting
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
Vice President
- Serves in the absence of the President
- Knows the basic rules of carrying out a meeting
- Leads the pledge to the flag
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
Secretary
- Keep accurate minutes of the meetings
- Reports at each meeting the minutes from the previous meeting
- Keeps attendance of all representatives at teacher meeting
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
Treasurer
- Keeps a written record of money earned and spent by student council
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
Historian
- Acts in the absence of the Secretary
- Keeps newspaper clippings and council photos in an organized notebook
- Informs WGES about upcoming student events
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
Classroom Representative
- Attend student council meetings
- Bring ideas and suggestions from class members to the meetings
- Report information back to his/her class and a K-2 classroom
- Help with the development of projects for the student council and school
- Helps promote school pride
- Is a good Gilchrist citizen
