• Our mentor program is a one-on-one academic enrichment program for students in kindergarten through 5th grader who are identified by their teachers as needing extra academic tutoring. Mentoring requires a volunteer commitment for the entire school year, and is one of the most personally rewarding activities you can undertake! If you have 30 minutes a week to spare, you can make a profound difference in the life of an academically struggling child.

Some children need a mentor to:
    • build confidence,
    • build math or reading skills,
    • make the transition moving from another school.

Tutoring can make a difference between success and failure. More information regarding the Leon County Schools Mentoring Program please see the links on this page. For more information or questions regarding the program at Gilchrist Elementary, please email Dawn Wilder, or call Gilchrist at 487-4310.
