Tutor Train is a one-on-one academic mentor program for students in kindergarten through 5th grader who are identified by their teachers as needing extra academic tutoring. Tutor Train requires a volunteer commitment for the entire school year, and is one of the most personally rewarding activities you can undertake! If you have 30 minutes a week to spare, you can make a profound difference in the life of an academically struggling child.
Some children need a mentor to:
• build confidence,
• build math or reading skills,
• make the transition moving from another school.
Tutoring can make a difference between success and failure. More information regarding the Leon County Schools Mentoring Program please see the links on this page. For more information or questions regarding the program at Gilchrist Elementary, please email Ann Wong, or call Gilchrist at 487-4310.
Through our Mentor Program, trained volunteers can work one-on-one weekly with a special student who needs academic assistance, encouragement and a caring friend. Each new mentor must attend a two hour training session and pass a criminal background check before being placed with a student.
