History
R. Frank Nims Middle is named for the late Principal Robert Frank Nims. Mr. Nims was the assistant principal of the Old Lincoln High School, under Cecil Walker, and the principal from 1955-1958.
Robert Frank Nims was born into one of the few well-known African-American families in Tallahassee. His mother was an educator and his father ran a local meat market in Frenchtown, a predominately African-American section of Tallahassee. Robert Frank Nims was affectionately called “Frank” by all family and friends. His parents were always supportive and played an involved role in Frank’s educational growth. As a younger boy, Frank would help out after school in his father’s meat market. He attended Lucy Moten Developmental Research School (FAMU High School) and graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College. He and his wife, who was superintendent at Bethel A.M.E Church, had no children, but treated students as if they were their very own.
Robert Frank Nims was an outstanding educator, administrator, and innovator. He earned the respect of his staff, students and Superintendent Amos P. Godby.
