Accessing Canvas as a Parent

  • If you are interested in seeing content that your student sees on a daily basis, you can register for a Canvas Parent Observer account. Through this account, you can be an Observer for your student’s courses – including seeing when assignments are due and what work your student has done. You can also monitor time spent on a task and other items.

    Canvas is accessible via a web browser (Canvas web page) or via the LCS Canvas App in the Google Play or Apple Stores.

    Before creating a Parent account:

    Before you can create a Parent Observer account, you need to get a Pairing Code from your student. Here are the instructions for the student to generate this code for you:

    1. Have the student log in to Canvas.
    2. In the global menu, click on "Account" and then "Settings".
    3. In the pop-up menu, click on "Pair with Observer".
    4. Copy down the six-character pairing code and share it with your parent.

     

    Creating a parent account on the web site:

    When you go to the Canvas web page, you will see the following login screen:

    To create an account,

    1. Click on "Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account" in the upper right corner.
    2. Fill in the resulting pop-up box and click "Start Participating"
    3. If you need to log in again, just go back to the Login Page and enter your email and password.

     

    Creating a parent account on the LCS Canvas App:

    After downloading the app and opening it:

    1. When the app first opens, click on "Find School".
    2. Start typing "Leon County Schools-Parents/Guardians" until you see that option suggested and click on it.
    3. On the next screen, click "Create Account".
    4. Fill in the information, add the Student Pairing Code, and agree to the Terms of Use.
