Accessing Canvas as a Parent
-
If you are interested in seeing content that your student sees on a daily basis, you can register for a Canvas Parent Observer account. Through this account, you can be an Observer for your student’s courses – including seeing when assignments are due and what work your student has done. You can also monitor time spent on a task and other items.
Canvas is accessible via a web browser (Canvas web page) or via the LCS Canvas App in the Google Play or Apple Stores.
Before creating a Parent account:
Before you can create a Parent Observer account, you need to get a Pairing Code from your student. Here are the instructions for the student to generate this code for you:
- Have the student log in to Canvas.
- In the global menu, click on "Account" and then "Settings".
- In the pop-up menu, click on "Pair with Observer".
- Copy down the six-character pairing code and share it with your parent.
Creating a parent account on the web site:
When you go to the Canvas web page, you will see the following login screen:
To create an account,
- Click on "Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here For an Account" in the upper right corner.
- Fill in the resulting pop-up box and click "Start Participating"
- If you need to log in again, just go back to the Login Page and enter your email and password.
Creating a parent account on the LCS Canvas App:
After downloading the app and opening it:
- When the app first opens, click on "Find School".
- Start typing "Leon County Schools-Parents/Guardians" until you see that option suggested and click on it.
- On the next screen, click "Create Account".
- Fill in the information, add the Student Pairing Code, and agree to the Terms of Use.
