One of the strongest foundations for school success is regular school attendance. Florida law requires each parent to be responsible for their child's school attendance. The Leon County Attendance Policy requires students to bring a note on their first day back explaining the reason for the absence.

An absence will be excused for the following reasons:

    • illness and/or medical care
    • death in the family
    • legal reasons
    • approved religious holidays
    • financial and/or other insurmountable circumstances
    • pre-arranged absences approved by the principal
Other absences (or absences for which written documentation is not provided to the school) will be counted as unexcused. Examples of unexcused absences are:
        • out-of-town company
        • shopping
        • taking care of younger brother or sister

Lateness and leaving school early are also defined as absences. Examples of unexcused tardies are:

      • overslept
      • missed the bus
      • car trouble
Students are counted tardy at 8:30 a.m. Examples of unexcused early departures are:
      • hair appointments
      • extra-curricular lessons
      • parent convenience

A student's grade could be affected by having eight or more unexcused absences, tardies, or early departures during a nine-week grading period.

Information regarding bus routes, drivers, and neighborhood pick up and drop off times and places can be obtained by calling the Leon District Transportation Office at 488-2636. At Moore, busses are assigned a color code so that students know their bus route by a color instead of a bus number. Colors are easier for young children to remember and bus numbers may change if busses are out of service during the year for repair or replacement. Bus routes and 'colors' do not change during the year.

To assist parents with before and/or after school care of children, Moore School offers an Extended Day Enrichment Program for a reasonable fee. Specific information on cost, activities, time, and enrollment procedures may be requested by calling the school or by contacting the Extended Day Program Director, LaKeisha Kirby-Sapp.
